Installed A New Zumo Xt2 Gps Yesterday

  1. Thanks. One tends to start out using MRA with everything in the root folder. Soon becomes a mess. Now have folders for different years for day rides. These are named with reverse date first, i.e. YYYYMMDD_route-name, so that they sort in date order no matter where they are. Separate folders for each tour starting with year. This makes everything far more manageable.

As to the toll roads issue you're experiencing. I haven't experienced that issue before. Seems to work for me in the route planner. Transferring the route to my Garmin I would have been inclined to set it on that too as a precaution.

  2. Yes, that can be the case also with other apps, I try to remember to do "close all" when I put the phone away.

  3. Yes, that wasn't set in the XT2.
Setting it the route avoids toll roads around Gdansk and Gdynia, but not towards Kaliningrad, so a slight improvement.
As I previously said, I will test with a brand new route in Poland since I've upgraded to the Gold version with Here-maps.

  4. I also like a few other features in the Gold subscription.
The ability to split and reverse routes and ‘ignore seasonal closures’ (that might also be on the free one) which is good for winter planning of summer routes.

I do a similar naming convention but hadn’t thought of doing the date first. I tend to do Day 1 OUT to XYZ
    Day 3 RETURN to XYZ

I also set the time and date of departure which means they usually come up in the right order on the Zumo routes

  5. I did the first real test of the XT2 navigation system yesterday. In MRA I planned a 200 km route on small, winding roads, uploaded the 1.1 tracks file to Google Drive, downloaded into Tread, and it automagically appears in the XT2.
It all worked flawlessly, in spite of some roads not being more than tiny, forest gravel roads, I am very satisfied with the way it worked.

  6. Glad it worked well for you. Just wondering why you use Tread?
Is this on your phone rather than a Sat nav?

If I didn’t have a sat nav I’d consider using the MRA phone app to navigate as it’s pretty flawless when linked with the route planner

  7. I don’t have a dedicated sat nav, as I don’t do enough touring to warrant it. I’ve been using MRA Navigation, and latterly Next for my past two weekend trips, and find it to be excellent. As has been said elsewhere, the app is constantly evolving and takes into account the feedback from a dedicated team of beta testers. IMHO, money well spent.

  8. I use Tread in my phone to be able to have the MRA created route appear in my Zumo XT2.
I don't know, is there another way than Tread to get the route into XT2, besides the cable connection?

I've been fooling around a little on Garmin's web page, but the Garmin software doesn't seem as good as the MRA software.

  9. You can export directly from the MRA phone app and send it to Garmin Drive which will link to your sat Nav and export the route (as long as they are connected).

    See below

Or export the .gpx, email it yourself, click on the attachment and agin use Garmin drive.

  10. Ok, thanks. I don't have the MRA phone app, I bought the MRA Gold lifetime.
But the Garmin Drive app seems to be compatible with XT only, XT2 is not listed.
Considering the XT2 it seems that the Tread app is replacing the Garmin Drive app for XT?

  11. Garmin Drive is not compatible with the XT2, it's Tread or nothing if you don't have an SD card. Andy

  12. I should have scrolled further :D, yes, correct. Had to do a route on the fly in a pub over coffee this morning. Tread actually worked well on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with the S Pen. Andy

  13. Ah, my mistake. I didn’t realise this was an issue with the XT2, sorry for the misinformation

  15. To be fair, the last 2 days, I've had to create a route on the fly and the Tred App actually delivered the goods. Andy
