English breakfast, should it have beans?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Denzil the Ducati, Oct 7, 2012.

  1. I like a nice full English (or Scottish, Irish or Welsh), everywhere I go they get served up with a pile of cheap baked beans (not Sainsbury's basic, Viv) which spread across the plate and contaminate the egg, fried bread and everything else. In my book beans are not part of a full English:mad:.

For me a full English should include
    Eggs
    Bacon
    Sausages
    Grilled tomato
    Grilled mushrooms
    Fried bread
A dash of brown sauce (not tomato ketchup)

Served with a mug of strong milky tea and some white toast with butter and marmalade

Regional variations may include black pudding, potato scones, fried sliced potatoes, toast instead of fried bread

I would not mind if they put the beans to one side of the plate behind a couple of sausages, however the bloody things get everywhere.

Given a choice would you have the beans or something else?

  2. For me, ditch the mushrooms and bacon and add beans!!

  3. yes yes yes,but maybe on the side in another little dish, and beanz meanz heinz!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Beans are the devils food, awful little bastards

  5. No beans on a proper one with posh sausage n bacon, but if its a greasy spoon one from a cafe yes somehow brings it all together!

  6. As a hater of tommy sauce they are not for me. Beans in general have a real odd texture to me,same reason I can't abide peas

  7. A posh full English usually bean free.

But cafe food beans and tinned tommies.

I like baked beans love them but not microwaved yuk !!
Have to be cooked in pan so they are soft and break down a bit.

I don't eat meat or fish.
    My brekkie would be
Fried mushrooms tomatoes egg I can't stand egg whites! So I cut out the yolk or have scrambled egg.
Hash browns :) toast with butter.
Fried bread I like but not in meat fat.

Local thing here in our chippy is deep fried black pudding.

I also love potatoe cakes and proper soda bread :)

I'm dead happy with beans on toast with a dash of HP sauce.

  8. Tomatoes. Who on God's green earth decided it was a good idea to put fruit with a cooked breakfast?

  9. Breakfast should not contain fruit or veg - fungus is fine

Legumes are a personal choice and dependant on how hungry you are - named brands only

  10. Probably Americans. They even put strawberries on their fried breakfasts. Just so wrong.

  11. ditch the beans

however my prime gripe is cheap nasty sausages and bacon rashes so thin you can see through them

  12. Yuk no beans or runny tomatoes
    No fried bread either

If you want beans then I think they should be served in a separate dish so you can add to your choice.

Nothing wrong with basics beans :)
I would rather mine cold though they go like stodge heated up

And a good dollop of HP sauce
    And milky coffee

  13. Yeah, just great guys. I am completely hungry now.

[hold the beans, though, not at breakfast]

  14. Ditch the Mushrooms
Swap the fried bread for thick sliced toast
    Beans
    Eggs fried scrabbled or poached
    Sausages Lincolnshire
    Bacon with no fat
    Plum Tomato's
    Brown sauce
    Mug mug of tea

  15. No mention of black pudding??

  16. [Homer Simpson Mode On] Mmmmmmmm black pudding [/Homer Simpson Mode Off]

  17. More like the Devil's discharge, they have no place on a plate for human consumption...

  18. Beans are never served in a Full Irish breakfast. No way, yuk. Here it would be Bacon, egg, sausage, black pudding, white pudding, tomato (not tinned) toast and tea. Yum

  19. Two Thick bacon,
    two quality sausage,
Two eggs, fried poached or scrambled,
    One Fried Bread,
Tomatoes, real or tinned, matters not,
    Mushrooms,
    Black pudding,
    Beans,
And a great big steaming mug of Tea!

    Or variations thereof!

Sausages can be utilised as a dam to prevent the "contamination" of other items with Bean juice.

Now if you will excuse me im off down the caff!

  20. Could also have white pudding in certain places.

I'm not fussy but hold the fried bread. It's just an excuse to soak up all the fat that came out if the sausages and bacon.

Sure, repeated cooked breakfasts will give you heart disease, but there's no point trying to make them as fatty as possible deliberately.
