750 ss ie

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by johnboy, Feb 13, 2013.

  1. left bracket had to be cut jigged and re-welded :(

  2. well been a bit quiet on here about the ss not had chance to ride that much recently
or do much else but mot due next weekend prompted me to pull my finger out
good check round and everything seems ok
also managed to pick up a rear hugger today off a great lad called shane not to far away
apparently might be on here somewhere
anyway nice ride out to pick it up and back

so job at hand fit the hugger ............four bolts right..........
three vacant holes where there should be bolts no problem got loads of bolts about
so just one to remove ...........oh wait a mo it just spins round and around and around
balls ............further investigation reveals the threaded insert is spinning in the swingarm
wide button head allen key style bolt cannot get to the insert ...........
GRINDER SURGERY ............well that's removed just got to get another insert popped in place
    life is never dull lol

on the upside as I was talking to shane outside his house next to the ss
along rolls another ss ie nice looking one to boot
as he rides past and points to me made my day .....maybe it was someone from on here
recognised the bike from on here
or just surprised to see another ie out :)

  3. okay finger out of arse time again ...........
finally got an odd rivnut for the swingarm predicament
well don't have the correct tool for fitting it ...........so improvise
looked on tinternet for something other than boobies lol
found it is possible to fit with just a nut and bolt
bolt fitted in rivnut with nut fitted first then tighten nut down against rivnut
in theory compress rivnut bulges side out hey presto fitted

bollox .........rivnut spins with the nut as tightened against it
so try best I can and its in hmm not entirely happy with it
hugger fits on nicely but thinking I might put a spot weld on the rivnut
    just for peace of mind:upyeah:

  4. well thought I had got myself a bargain this last week
found a brand new rear brake disc for sale still in the packet £20 plus £3 postage
just had a phone call of the seller turns out it was neatly wrapped up packed with newspaper
oops seems the sellers wife mixed it up with the papers for recycling and its gone in the bin
bummer at least the seller is sending my cheque back

ahh well :(...........but still amused me lol

  5. okay got a break in the weather so thought I would check out the dim headlight problem
first thought was to check voltage at the headlight connector .......only to find this hmm

    SAM_0104.JPG

so a little bit on the warm side on the earth connector
anyway checked the voltage with the engine running just over 12 volts
    dropping to 11.9volts when revved
checked voltage at battery showing 12.5 dropping to 12.1 when revved
so first thought usual suspect regulator felt a little warm for only running about 2 mins
checked and cleaned connector back up to well above 13 volts at battery not dropping when revved
checked at headlight connector showing now showing 12.5 volts dropping to 12.1 when revved

so whoo more electrikery to sort

right adding an earth might help but not really an auto electrician so any thoughts
probably missed something really obvious :Banghead:

  6. so spent a bit of money on the ss just got to get my finger out and dig it out from hibernation
looking at fitting new rear disc and pads and getting the wheels painted
and also a new tyre needed on the back
so waiting for a nice day and out with the paddock stand lol
well it will have shiny bit on it lol

    IMG00014.jpg

  7. I need one of them, tried three sets of pads and still the back back brake on mine is useless...... lookin good. How Much was it?

  8. £73 and a few pennies and free postage first class as well
from a company called wizbiz ......hold on

Wizbiz Bike Parts - Superbike Race Accessories, Motorbike Screens, UK

    yep that's it from here
they have an ebay site but it cost more on there
not bad service ordered Tuesday night arrived today
like the look of the Armstrong disc

now do I go for gg or hh pads on the rear

  9. I had the armstrong pads in the rear and rated them, will find out which and post in the morning.... still have the box

  10. ok so change of plans was going to strip the back wheel out to sort paint disc and pads etc
due to unseen circumstance looks like I will need the bike next week
so hooked up the battery quick check around
put in gear and rocked back and forth to free clutch
then pressed the start button :Nailbiting:...............fires first spin like it hadn't been stood at all
so far so good took it for a spin to see if the wheels fall off but all seems ok
    :upyeah:

  11. well been a busy boy ........
just got to get pics from my phone uploaded whoo

  12. ok so got my finger out and busy this week had the tyre removed so as to paint the wheel
managed to get a tyre fitted today so on with fitting the new disc
replaced the disc bolts with new ones as the old ones were ....well...butchered
when I took the old disc off I was surprised how easy the bolts came out
ie not really tight so a dab of threadlock on the new ones for peace of mind

just got to wait for it stop raining now to put the wheel back on the bike bah :(

  14. Hey bud, wheels look much better in black than previous colour.
Just had a set of Sportec M7RR's fitted to mine and really happy with them so far, just need to now make up some fairing brackets because moved the headlight frame forward and then paint it all and its ready for Summer again.
I opted for the HH pads think they are gold, had them before and happy with them.

  15. went for gg pads in the end
thought they would work better at low speeds will see how they work out

  16. whoo finaly got a break to fit the new pads and fit the wheel back on the bike
why do people do this .........
took the old pads out and look like someone has cut down an incorrect pad to fit plonkers
and as I removed one of the pads realised something else was wrong
the locating tab that the pin goes through to hold pads in had snapped off arghh
anyhoo cleaned up checked pistons were free etc and now its all back together
just need to take it for a spin lol

  17. Can't believe someone would be so tight and not buy the right set, brave or dumb can't quite get my head round that.

  18. we all like a bit of grinder action
    IMG00020.jpg

well got round to having a go at making an oil cooler guard
    for the ss
acquired a sheet of perforated stainless as you can see I got a bit more than I needed thanks to my local non ferrous scrap merchant near work
my mate at work has been trying to get this off me for a grill for his car hah tough lol
so took some measurements and finally got started
got the main piece cut and have started on some stainless
10 mm angle for round the edges just have to sort mounting brackets have a couple of ideas but see what it turns out like it might end up in the bin yet hah

  19. don't ask why the pics duplicated

    I don't know
trust me I am better with a grinder than a computer lol

  20. well got a break with the weather and spare time
and decided to attack the clutch slave cylinder and replace it with one I had rebuilt
existing on had a broken bleed nipple
luckily I had a new banjo bolt with a new one
the old fluid was well really bad and black
bleeding was going really well till I accidently pulled some air in the master cylinder so took a bit longer
    but clutch action feels better
and I feel better knowing the seals are ok :)
