120/70 On A 748?

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Fudoshin, Sep 23, 2014.

  1. Hi, is it me or is trying to find 120/60's getting harder? I'm returning to riding after a ten yr break and using my 748 for the track only. I want to replace the tyres but 120/60's seem scarce- is everyone using 120/70's now? And if so what
difference should I expect to feel in handling?
I'm pretty green and don't want to make a costly mistake by buying the wrong tyres..
Thanks in advance for your time..

  2. 120/70 is the best choice imo. Gives a little more contact when leant over. I could regularly ride the edge on a 60 but the 70 gives that little more of a safety margin.

  3. you'll be fine on 120/70...you probably won't even notice a difference...

  4. 120/70 worked much better for me - that is the size the 916 came with as OE

  5. Thanks for the replies!

  6. 120/70 is so much better on the 748

  7. Didn't the 748 have 120/70 as standard anyway with the 916 running the slower /60? I thought that's what gave the 748 the slightly more nimble handling.

  8. 2001 748R certainly did and came with a 180/55 on the rear. Andy

  9. I know someone who used a 60 and then took it to a track day and ran right off the rim and crashed, too much rim shows using a 60 and I cannot see why Ducati ever decided to use that size at all. It's no contest really it has to be a 120/70.

  10. I found the front would tuck under with a 60 no problems with a 70
