748 748 Stalling At 2100 Rpm

  1. shame, still you crossed one check off. As it behaved (I take it) flawlessly for that period albeit temporarily, then it's worth checking all ignition related mutiplugs for light corrosion (tell-tale hint of green on spade/pin connector sometimes) while you work your way through your other checks/replacements. (you probably knew this : ))

  2. All connections have been checked again, and all looked very clean.

i will be checking components but i'm starting to think a broken wire somewhere

  3. I have checked through the service history to see if there were any clues to what may cause the symptoms, and found that the bike used to have a Ducati alarm fitted. This had failed so was removed. I am going to check the wiring loom where insulation tape has been added, strip it back and see if I can find a break.

  4. I had this problem with my 748. Had soime work done on it by Baines Racing and the problem was gone.
Then it started again. After much messing about it trurned out to be water shoirting the vertical cylinder out.
I lifted the tank, unplugged the HT lead from the plug and clenbed out the plug housing with an absorbant cloth. I squirted a bit of WD40 on the plug and lead and all is well

  5. Thankyou Stanforth. I shall be adding this to the checks too

  6. Just been reading this thread, any up dates ATB at what it was/could be.

  7. Unfortunately not yet.I have put it away for winter now to save driving me mad. Before I put it away it was still only running intermitently.
Despite my friends saying sell it, i shall persevere because I love the bike.
So come February I shall check everything again paying attention to suggestions recieved.Any more ideas appreciated

  8. @ATB I feel your pain...

I had a similar issue with my '99 748. Tried many things... Valve / shim clearance, fuel filter / lines, TPS...

I took it to 4 "Ducati Specialists" I won't shame them... All but one said there was nothing wrong with it (intermittent fault hard to find I agree)

JHP found the issue; under torqued alternator nut... And the only Ducati shop I now use...

Not saying it's your issue; but may be worth checking....

  9. That is one reason why i am not willing to take the 748 to a specialist yet, because i shall have to pay for them to do what i have done so far.Not to say that i am not very frustrated.
I remember that the last mechanic that i had work on it said that they had checked the alternator bolt, but i shall definately check it myself.
On the plus side i have got to know alot about the bike now and want to sort it myself.
