  1. Got my welfare pack from the red cross today:upyeah:
Should I work out what I need done shim wise ,before I put new belts on, I think that's less labour in long run?

  2. I would/did yes.
Looking at you belts part number and it differs to mine as the ones I have end 61A, anyone know what the difference is?

  3. The number of available belts has been rationalised. 31A's, 61A's Are now obsolete with 91A's being the one belt left. I believe it was the latest incarnation of the belt 'design'... There was some good info on DuN forum.

  4. I think there is three generations off belts and part numbers changed each time, first ended with 31a then 61a latest is 91a

  5. Thanks for explaining guys, so mine are old and I’ve not fitted the bloody things yet.

  6. Still looking plugs and oil , are the QA55V compatible? and thinking Motul 300v

  12. Oh dear, unlucky mate. How much chrome was on the oil strainer?

  13. :D

Get them Newmanised, you don't want to be doing this every service. For the cost it's a no-brainer. :upyeah:

  14. Some shrapnel

  15. That doesn't look like much considering how much is missing. Have you had the bike long?

  16. I never really noticed any evidence on the strainer, but had two openers fooked.

  17. I thought that was the tell-tale sign. You live and learn.

  18. Oh no! I know how that feels and it looks like your service is following a similar path to mine unfortunately. A few of those are as bad as I’ve seen and as they are the gold colour is it possible they may all be original or at least early replacements? (all my new replacements were silver). I have my fingers crossed for you that your cams are ok…I’ m sure you could do without the extra trauma.
I’m with Keith on this one Cream, never seen a worrying amount of anything on the strainer or plug and only found out when the cams are removed.
I see Wash is happy to knock up his own tools and found this idea really useful when measuring closing shims. I pinched the idea from a guy on YouTube after trying to hold the rockers down by pressing on the end as a lot of folks suggest… it’s very easy to slip and damage a stem seal (don’t ask). Anyway the pics are self explanatory and it’s simple to make if anyone fancy’s having a go.
