Is It A 750ss Or Not?

Discussion in 'Vintage' started by ducv2, Apr 26, 2015.

  1. Interesting. The seller has appended to his eBay posting a lengthy and complicated explanation about the bike's provenance. It is supposedly a 1973 built pre-production 750SS. It apparently has a 1973 750S frame, and quite a lot of later parts fitted.

Notoriously lots of people modify 750GT and 750Sport bikes, or later square-case bikes, so that they come out looking like valuable genuine 1974 750SSs, or even more valuable 1972 750SS racers. It is not easy to be sure, as some fakers go to great lengths.

One would have to study the bike itself and the paperwork with great care. If the seller's information is true (who knows?), the bike may well be what it is supposed to be, in which case it is very rare. It would be unwise to buy such a bike unless you really knew what you were doing.
