Ebay Not Always Great! :-/

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by gremlyng, Mar 26, 2015.

  1. What's with all this starting a used item off on ebay for a few quid less that what you can buy it brand new. I've noticed this more and more. People will only pay as to how much they really want the item....and carbon dry clutch covers really p1ss me off!!!

  2. I've stopped selling on ebay due to getting ripped off a number of times.
Latest one was at christmas; sold an item and very clearly stated the used condition with plenty of pictures, but the woman asked for a refund when it arrived as it was "marked" which was pointed out in the auction listing and pictures.
She went through the ebay process to get a refund but didn't return all of the item sold, but still got a refund through ebay!
So I'm out of pocket for postage to send the item, had to pay the return postage fees and also the listing and selling fees, plus I've lost part of the goods!
I phoned ebay and pointed out that this was theft but all they said was that they would investigate...

  3. Similar thing happened to me and ive not sold anything since. Mine was a 3 year old mobile phone, listed accurately, pointed out that the phone was 3 years old in used condition and so not to expect a brand new phone. I pointed out various marks and included high quality images. Sold it just before Christmas for £150 which I was pleased with as it meant I could then spend that money on Xmas pressies for family. Sent phone out Special Delivery which cost me more than the postage I charged the person. Person then complained that the phone was used and had various marks. They filed ebay complaint etc. In the end I agreed to pay for return postage and give a full refund. So I was out of pocket and still had the phone. Person then left me negative feedback. I ended up chucking the phone in the bin rather than try to sell it again.

  4. There are far more bad buyers than sellers on ebay from my experience but there rule change means you can no longer leave negative feedback and warn other sellers of this.

Used to be a much better place 10 yrs or so back when I first joined.

  5. As a long-time eBay user, I have noticed a gradual shift away from this format.... at least for the things I buy; cars, bikes et al. They own Gumtree, too, and have been punting it's glories on the TV, but it sells crap and is like a rather ghastly car boot sale so best avoided. eBay has been trying to concentrate on becoming a trader's market-place and has stopped encouraging their old enthusiasts to use the service. Very few really interesting things ever appear for sale anymore and the quantity on offer has curtailed markedly too. As usual the geeks have been having a wankfest with the operating system and the owners have desended into greed and forgotten why they started their gold-mine in the first place. As a doom-monger, I fortell it's demise, sooner rather than later...... Bah Humbug !

  6. I still use it to buy 95% of the stuff I buy as it's a great resource for parts as well as the "where the hell would I buy that from anyway?" stuff like specialist fasteners, but you can see there's been a definite shift away from it being a small-time seller's global car boot sale to a massive marketplace that includes all the big boys like Argos, Top Shop and even car dealers like BMW selling parts.

  7. It's almost like money is corrupting the original idea. Where have I seen that happen before ...?

    Oh! I know! Everywhere.

  8. I've sold a fair few bits on eBay, never had an issue. I like to price my stuff quite high and then allow buyers to make an offer. Makes people think they've got a bargain

I did buy a radiator once that never arrived, phoned the seller and once he knew who I was he hung up. I tried to get a refund through eBay but they said I had to wait 14 days to make my claim or something silly. Then when I tried to claim (I think I called just about a month later as I'd forgotten about it) they told me I'd missed my deadline so I was £100 down.

Another time I bought an aprilia fairing but it arrived damaged. I took pictures etc and seller paid for postage to return item and gave me a full refund no hassle.
