848 rear vent indicators

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Hutch, Feb 23, 2013.

  1. Hi all... Im looking at a tidy up of the bikes rear.. I've got my hanger but need options for the turn signals.. Anybody know how to get into the rear vents??
    cheers

  2. This has been done a number of times, but I think the threads were on Ducatisti?

  3. I've looked everywhere (I think?) & can find lots of fitment ideas especially on the american sites, but no 'how to' guide on getting into the vents themselves... To me it looks like going underneath via the heat shield but just wanted to be sure... You know what bodywork is like with hidden fragile clips all over the place..

  4. From memory I thought the seat vents were heat glued in position? Can anyone else remember?

  5. Put them on Chars 848 sf, there mounted onto a bracket which you cable tie onto the frame, I think they were bought in a kit, I'm sure they would fit most bikes with similar rear end, I'm sure there some photos around somewhere

  6. So not actually 'inside' the vent then? If those are vents are sealed units glued in I really dont fancy pulling it all apart...

  7. Take the back off, then put the indicatirs onto the frame, then put the back on, the vents are meshed and glued in If I remember correctly, your going to have to remove the rear of the bike :)

  9. Hi, Hutch. There aren't vents (tubes) under the seat unit, the mesh just covers holes in the seat unit - but they are stuck in place. If you take the seat off, then the underseat covers you will be able to work out where to put it all. the only tricky bit is the underseat cover does seem to sit on top of the rear end panel but the very end has a tab that slips underneath. Do it one step at a time and all will become apparent - if I can do it then pretty much anyone can!!

  10. Why not just have integrated rear light ones

  11. Char I'm loving the job on that.. Looks nice...

ngraham848 I'll have a dismantling session today & see what it looks like under there.. Thanks for the heads up on that rear clip.. thats exactly what I'm talking about... Things pinging off or snapping & it getting expensive..

Bradders, on the intergrated lights.. I'm not sure why I'm not keen... I fitted a set to my R6 not cheap either & they stopped working on a long ride out to skegness the one day, took everything out including the brake lights, was another biker behind who told me... On the duke versions I've heard of quality issues too.... Plus if im splicing the wires from the originals then its a cinch to go back to standard if I needed to..... Dont get me wrong I like the look of the integrated lights but its not for me....

  12. Thanks Hutch

Nicest thing anyone's said to me on the forum - makes a pleasant change :-D

  13. Ah shucks ma'am s'really nothin :)

Pulled the tail apart earlier & only broke one clip, pleased with that.. If not for the advice above about pulling the shield forward it would have been a hell of a lot worse.... Indicators arrive tomorrow but I think I'm going to need to get creative in there... Theres sod all space!!

  14. Bing Bong done.... Will they stay put?? God knows hehe Cheers y'all

  16. Thats class on the other videos I have on there eh?? I cant frame for sh~t haha,,, Still.. Its alll about the noise..
I was going to dub some happy hardcore over the indicator video like the americans do... but, ahhh no...

  17. Took her out for a couple of hours just now & they stayed in place... Can I plug a product? Evo Stick 'sticks like sh~t"... Yes, its actually called that... Come in a silcone type tube (mastic tube?) anyway.. Silly name aside it works.. & its heat resistant too, bonus as the cans are right underneath the venticators (new word trademarked by Hutch)

  18. They look like the Oxford Galileo indicators from the shape of them Oxford Galileo small.jpg

  19. They won't pass mot either matey !

  20. Spot on Jester... I'd bought some cheap carbon crap ones on ebay to pop in there.. But they were taking ages to arrive so I nipped to Sutton Honda Tamworth and threw £30 at a pair... The contour & bundled resistors sold me.... More than I wanted to spend plus I'm now stuck with some carboniumarse nasty lights that I wont use but yeah.. worth it..
