Belt Tension - Front/rear Different - 1100 Evo

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by HYPERBIMDUKE, Apr 24, 2015.

  1. My 1100 evo Hypermotard manual state same belt tension front & rear.
I know some dealers/service outfits set front rear differently on air cooled motors.
    Any thoughts recommendations?

    cheers

  2. Wisdom dictates that the horizontal/front cylinder is exposed to more air and therefore runs cooler than the vertical/rear cylinder which will expand more and have a tightening effect on the belt.

I have seen people use 10mm of deflection on the front and 12mm on the rear to take this into account, usually in the form of running a 5mm allen key through the fixed roller on the front and a 6mm on the rear.

    YMMV.

  3. No belt manufacturer recommends this as far as I know or even Ducati for that matter. I used to do it on my SS when using the allen key method but I haven't herd of any differential frequencies if you are doing it by Herz...

  4. Ducati Coventry & GTech both told me they set different tension f/r..
