Getting really pissed off with corrosion issues on new multi You know I'm pissed off ! My Multistrada I brought December last year so It's less than 3mths old and already I've had issued with corrosion (1) The exhaust valve was sticking further investigation the top of the pulley thing where the cable goes, the nipple has rusted solid I can't budge it, the exhaust bolt looks like something you would expect to take off something 10yrs old. (2) The inner disc brake cut outs are an eye sore, I've dab with some black hammerite. (3) The Brake Caliper bolts are mank and oxidising the ends of the cable runs are also black with shit. Fuck me my ST4 which is ten years old is in better nick. I've had to paint things, polish things up and I mean polish things up with dremel multi tool. Shouldn't be having to do this on a new bike. It was the Multi that saved Ducati arse from going under, it's there biggest seller, which has become a very mass produced bike...one I suspect now hasn't got the quality parts of previous years, instead using cheap metals and castings probably from fucking china! Anyone else having issues, and what's covered under warranty
Doesn't sound good at all and you might want to check this thread out - http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/ducati-aftercare-shocking-20683/ and keep an eye on your engine casings etc. Best to check with your local dealer about warranty etc as they might have previous experience and/or other owners with similar issues? All the best, Mark H
kel, do you use any cleaning products like Muckoff ? I wonder if your using an agressive cleaner that is taking the plating off the bolts and fittings It seems really bizarre that some peoples bikes are fine whilst others are not, and not just in one or two areas. I could understand a bad batch of bolts or hoses, but not a bad batch of everything just on the one bike.
Muckoff are there different types of this stuff ? I ask because I thought the Muckoff motorcycle cleaner (pink) says its non aggressive so should not harm anything. However I have read on a couple of threads here that people suggest not to use the stuff. Whats the score ?
Phoenix, just trying to help mate. My 2010 MTS looked fine when cleaned with water and car shampoo, until I had it cleaned by a valeter. When I chalenged him he agreed that he had feedback from some that whatever he was using to clean the wheels was removing the plating from the bolts I should add that my mates GS that was cleaned at the same time as mine suffered from the same removal of plating from disc / caliper bolts. No idea if there are different types of Muckoff as I don't use it, but I believe its meant to be diluted and a lot of people dont bother to do so. In my experience my MTS was no worse after 3.5 years of use than my previous ST4S, 998, or 996, all with similar use and miles. Back to the casings, the paint fell off to a small extent of all three of the other bikes too on their sumps, despite being inside their fairings and not exposed to stone chips...
I'm starting to have the same issues as you Kel, I noticed I have rust leaching on my front disk where the expansion bobbins are. My ABS sensor plates are starting to go white and fury, my exhaust valve is jammed as well (New after market exhaust on order) the calliper bolts have gone white and the huge circlip on the back axel is bright orange with rust, the chain constantly needs cleaning and re waxing and a lot of the "black" faring screws are getting a white deposit on them to. I use Muckoff but have always diluted it 1/4 of a bottle of muckoff to the rest water = I wet the bike down before I put it on and dry it after I've rinsed it off. I had an R! for 4 years and it didn't hurt it at all using muckoff. It's just the shite metal and coatings they use.
A lot of these cleaners aren't very nice stuff IMO. I see many bikes with corroded fittings, stained alloy etc. and without fail, if asked what they're using it's some "pink stuff". Had a multi GT in today and had the same conversation with the owner. I looked up the data sheet a while back on the stuff and one of the main ingredients in its undiluted state had a ph of around 11, pretty much the same as caustic. It used to be branded as non acidic which is very true. It may have evolved, but I've never used it and I've not suffered corrosion issues and many more customers who have used alternative methods of cleaning have stayed clean. Many cleaners claim to be acid free, but few state ph neutral. Alkaline cleaners are just as aggressive.....read the labels
I use this without any issues and it's PH neutral Pro-Clean : Cleanings and Servicings Products for your Motorbike, Yacht, Car, Everythings
Wonderwheels alloy wheel cleaner while being great at cleaning the wheels will rapidly remove passivated zinc coatings from nuts and bolts - don't ask me how I know :frown:. It's also very good at removing the brown discolouration from stainless exhausts.
sdoc 100 for me and all my bikes have looked mint with this , my new multi will also be cleaned with this
Try cleaners that actively sort out rust just about everything Bilt Hamber make deals with sorting out rust on vehicles including their shampoo. Environmentally-friendly Vehicle & Car Shampoo | Order Auto-Wash As a former all year round Buell owner, this is the only stuff I found that saved my bike from turning into an expensive rust pile within a year. Can recommend them highly and its what I will be keeping my MS covered in year round. The Ferrosol spray is also very good too as an alternative to o something like ACF50
Yeah to be honest I have used that...you think that's what causing it? did wondered if that could be it.
Hey JC sorry to hear your having same problems I'm beginning to think it's this pink shite..... since I've re-polished everything I'll just stick to shampas and water and see how it goes. Need to dry it well so I did though invest in one of these though fucking great...beats Vidal Sassoon!!
Sorry, but ,mine can turn to dust on front of my eyes before I go to the extremes of blow drying the fucking thing! Its a bike, a machine, to be ridden and used, not given perms and blowjobs, simple wash and chamois with a polish or acf treatment is as much as anything should need!
