Ohlins Steering Damper For 996

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Pfk, Mar 29, 2015.

  1. Hi,

I'm looking to replace my steering damper on my 996 for an ohlins jobbie.

Can anyone tell me if another models damper and bracket will fit, maybe a 1098 or 749 unit ?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of choice at the moment for a used 748,916 derived unit.

All help and advice much appreciated

    Many thanks

  2. Im looking at doing the similar on my 996 at the moment. I would have thought that as long as the diameter of the after market damper is the same (26mm I measured my OE one at) then you should be able to just swap the unit straight over using the stock mounting bracket. I measured the aftermarket Harris one on my R1 and thats only 25mm diameter, so you may find that ohlins ones are the same - in which case you would have to either use a different mounting bracket, or sleeve the OE one.

  3. The original Ohlins damper was Model SD120, this was superseded by model SD031 and this fitment will cover all 748-998 models and also 848, 1098, 1198.
