Hi, I'm looking to replace my steering damper on my 996 for an ohlins jobbie. Can anyone tell me if another models damper and bracket will fit, maybe a 1098 or 749 unit ? There doesn't seem to be a lot of choice at the moment for a used 748,916 derived unit. All help and advice much appreciated Many thanks
Im looking at doing the similar on my 996 at the moment. I would have thought that as long as the diameter of the after market damper is the same (26mm I measured my OE one at) then you should be able to just swap the unit straight over using the stock mounting bracket. I measured the aftermarket Harris one on my R1 and thats only 25mm diameter, so you may find that ohlins ones are the same - in which case you would have to either use a different mounting bracket, or sleeve the OE one.
The original Ohlins damper was Model SD120, this was superseded by model SD031 and this fitment will cover all 748-998 models and also 848, 1098, 1198.
