I never thought this day would come. A bit of a rambling story, so appologies ahead of time Back in 2004 I bought a new ST4SABS, and Kept that one for 6 years as it was such. Cracking bike. There simply wasn't anything to compare to it. When rumours of the MTS12 were circulating i slapped a deposit on one, despite the dealer having no idea of colours, spec, performance or price. A group of us travelled to Milan to see the bike when it was launched, and knew it was the right bike. When the dealer got their demo we test rode it and the wife agreed it was the bike for us. And so inMay 2010 we got one of the first batch of MTS12s in the UK. There are few times in my biking time that I've been told not to sell a bike, but the wife likes the MTS that much. So there I was at the dealers the Saturday before Christmas, picking my bike up after they changed the frame sides under warranty (due to the side stand wear reported elsewhere). I Popped across to the salesman to wish him merry Christmas, And came out 30 minutes later having bought a new bike  All the way home I wa trying to figure out how I could tell mrs W I had bought a new bike and the MTS would have to go. I was also trying to convince myself I had made the right call. I plucked up courage and told her. She was not best pleased, but then I described the deal, and she mellowed (a bit). I've bought another MTS  It is an unregistered 2012 touring, so one of the last ohlins equipped bikes. I got what I consider to be a superb deal, meaning cost to change is ~£3k to get a new zero miles bike with fresh warranty What's more all the bits on the current bike can be transferred to the new one. The new bike is not my favourite colour so I have decided to give this one a custom paint job. I am trying to figure out whether I should do a variant of the pikes peak, or a metallic grey & red senna style. Any links or pics gratefully received. Oh, the wife has said i am not allowed in the show room again unaccompanied
sounds like you've got pretty much what I have apart from mine was used but low miles. im also doing a slant on the pikes peak so perhaps we should compare notes beforehand
Yeah seen the yellow pics, not for me. Damo my dealer has a PP rep they have done that has some extra pin striping, looks real nice. I will try to post a couple of pics later. The bike is matt grey (I don't like matt finish). I was tempted to buy a PP earlier this year but wasn't worth the cost to change. At this price though a look alike is on the cards I am looking to see if I can go with red frame, and either PP or gloss grey senna (possibly with red wheels), or combination with grey where the red is. Can't make up my mind...
Very nice Steve, I might give them a call. The dealer has suggested using a couple of places, but neither are local. What sort of money did they charge for that, and did you supply the whole bike or just the panels ?
I couldn't remember (it was done just over a year ago now) but thanks to the wonders of forum search I found my reply to someone who asked the same question at the time Here's what I said..... It was £1000 plus VAT - so not cheap, but I had a lot of extras done too. The paint is a faithful copy of the Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak design, with no stickers used at all, but with the white and red swoop carried on to the front mudguard’s painted section. I also had the wheels re-painted gloss black with Pikes Peak design pinstripe. The bellypan, exhaust hangers, pillion footrest hangers, front and rear footrests, chain guard, and crud catcher all re-painted gloss black. Wheels, Bellypan, exhaust hangers, footrests, and footrest hangers all finished in special hard wearing lacquer. So although it was more than some of the alternatives, it was actually only a couple of hundred more than the places who were going to use a sticker kit and lacquer over it and I didn't get as far as the fine details of foot pegs etc with the other options, so it might have been closer still. So are they cheap - NO Do they offer decent value for money when you see the quality of the work - YES You pays your money and takes your choice
Wonder who's doing the quotes at Altamura, as they're clearly just pulling a random figure out of their arse and doubling it. They wanted 20% more than that for the aforementioned Giallo paintwork, a job that is unquestionably considerably less involved. No wheels, bits or anything else, just turn the red plastic bits yellow. Unsurprisingly I chose to go somewhere else, where I wouldn't be treated like a f*cking idiot.
Where did you go doodle ? Pm me if you prefer  The places my dealer has mentioned are in the order of £650, which seems ok to me.
You scared me there John that you might be leaving the fold. Good choice and well done. I prefer the early PP colours with black to the most recent PP colour with no black
I bought mine with this paintwork already done, I think it was DreamMachine that did the work. The only thing I don't really like is the angle on the stickers...
Revolution Custom in Reading quoted me £500 if I stripped the bike myself, I've dealt with them before so I know the quality is there. Not taken them up yet as I've been busy with other projects (and now had my head turned by the Monster 1200, so awaiting a test ride first!).
Thanks Doodle, i'm going with the place the dealer recommended. I will be stripping the bike myself and just supplying them the parts. Saves a load of labour charges, and for me gives peace of mind that its put back together the same way it came apart.
Well, the queen has new clothes ! Below are a couple of pics of the new look. I'm very pleased with it. It is all painted, no transfers. For anyone interested, it is white pearl with senna grey metallic, and ducati (rosso ?) red. The pannier covers are also painted to match (grey with white strip along side). So what to call it. Is it a PP Grey, a Senna Peak, or what  (not that it matters, I will just call it 'mine' :biggrin Oh, and a huge thanks to Dammo for doing a mock up for me so I could tell the painter how I wanted it.
