97 750ss Wet Clutch - Possible Upgrades?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by TBay, May 10, 2024.

  1. After 6 months work I have got the 750ss to the MoT station and it nearly passed which was good news.

The few miles there are back were great and it rides spot on. The only issue is that the clutch is super heavy, much heavier than I remember from swapping bikes with mates twenty plus years ago. Maybe I’m just getting old and soft. I stripped and cleaned the master and slave cylinders and replaced the fluid and the clutch is working perfectly in terms of bite/ release/ not crunching etc. So I wondering if there are any mods than can be done to lighten the lever pull? Different master/ slave cylinders for example. Any suggestions?

  2. Assuming you have later/conventional clutch slave model, an Oberon slave will definitely make clutch lighter if you still have the standard slave still fitted. This is at the expense of slightly longer travel at the hand lever though but makes no difference to user in 90% plus applications.

  3. I had wondered about an Oberon as have one on my Multistrada but wasn’t sure if they were different ratio or just better quality. Will have a look, thanks.

  4. Sounds a bit odd to me that it's that heavy/stiff. My MY97 750SS lever was way lighter and easier than my 998 one [dry].

  5. A five mile run to the MoT station and back in moderate traffic was enough tbh, hence the post. Coupled with a dull neutral light it’s not great. Looks like I need to dig a bit deeper……
