749 749 ('03) Mono No Spark At Plug

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Hugh Janus, Jul 31, 2015.

  1. Hi,
Bought an 03 749 a few months ago and all of a sudden It wont start, It has the extra earth mod, the fuel pump relay had been changed and the quiet clutch mod done and the ecu had the immobilizer taken off it and the later coil packs put on. All summer it has run well and I've had no trouble

I came out to it last weekend to start it up and go for a run and I got nothing... fuel pump sound, voltage high, press starter and the starter motor just spins with no signs of wanting to turn over properly. I took the front coil pack out and checked it for a spark nothing, tested new plugs nothing again... any idea? I'm stumped!

    Thanks in advance :)

  2. Crank position sensor

  3. who? what? where? is it easy to sort?

  4. You say the starter motor spins with no sign of the the engine turning over properly.
Is the engine turning over or not?
If the engine remains static while the starter motor spins, it's your sprag clutch that's gone.

  5. no movement from the engine at all.. no spark just literally starter motor spinning

  6. Sprags gone then :(

  7. only 7k on the clock though

  8. I
If the motor is repeatedly started with a knackered starting circuit, ie a weak battery and or high resistance cables, it won't take long to kill the sprag. The main damage may have been done some time ago.

  9. Thanks.. gonna cost a small fortune i expect... ahh well its worth it for the shits and giggle i get from the bike

  10. It's something I've managed to avoid having to do, so I can't advise you on it but others on here who are not pro mechanics have managed it successfully.

  11. had a look at a youtube video and a scan of the workshop manual and seems pretty straight forward TBH so gonna start pricing the stuff up and gonna have a go myself... im pretty confident with how straight forward it is.

    Something for over winter...

  12. Be worth a search for past threads, I'm pretty sure your not the first.

    Best of luck.

  13. Not least for cheaper ways of doing it.
Iirc, using oem parts can be pricey but isn't necessary.
I think @Mr.R may be something of an expert on this.
