Do You Ride Your Pride And Joy All Year?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by PETE R, Nov 20, 2014.

  1. Yep.... Just had mine serviced and mot'd (the car that is) so its good for whatever the winter throws at it.... Having said that the weather is good in bristol for the next few days so ill be on the bike.... Its not too cold yet plus the zed has heated grips (love'm!) the only downside is if i go in the car its 40 mins vs 15....

  2. This year same as last... I've switched to trusty vfr already, put 7500 miles on 848 this year and might put a few more on dry sunny weekend days. Vfr has had its biannual bath and mystical (as in I'm not sure if it really makes a difference) misting of acf50. It gets new shoes in the morning, Dunlop qualifiers, they're good for surface water, slush, snow and leaves right...!?

I quite like my Autumn/ Winter cold commutes, slides n' all over the Pennines, especially the 3 miles of filtering through the Leeds-bound traffic at the end.

  3. used to be an all weather rider (apart from iced up roads) but not since the rebuild. once i can afford a hack i will be again as i cant stand sitting in traffic for up to 2'5 hrs for a half hr ride (greenford to swiss cottage) (not that i do that particular commute often anymore) i would rather be cold, wet and run the gauntlet.
i did notice earlier this year riding down to Lewes at 6 in the morning that i can no longer tough it out in summer gloves and will ave to get some of those bulky winter jobbies. a couple of winters of the road has made me soft!

  4. Oxford heated grips... Rode home from london to bristol last week (ace cafe visit) by fuck it was cold.... Dont think i could have done it without those running at 100%!

  5. its always a cold ride that i hate the m4. you like the ace?

  6. A bit chavvy... Glad i went and i would go again but i prefer loomies.... Plus the ride there (to loomies) was nothing short of amazing.... From my place anyway!

  7. theres a young lad i have seen every morning now for easy a year and a half on his 125 head down,rain/shine snow. heading up to the fort bill area. must be doing at the very least 20mls each way. been there, done that.

  8. yea a lil chavy for sure but a good turn out of bikes to look at and just round the corner from me. shame i was away or i would have loved to have come and met ya

  9. Sheesh.... I did put it i the rideouts area... Never mind.... Happens.... I think thats it now for long rides this season...

  10. I will not ride the Panigale once salt has been used on the roads, I have just had the MTS and F800GS treated with ACF50 so will use only the GS unless the wife wants to go out.

  11. yea i saw ya post (one of em) but i wasnt about anyhu. i must get down to bristol soon(ish) to get some work done on the bike and perhaps stay a few days

  12. Put 7000 miles on the multi since I got it in March. That includes not being able to ride it for 2 of those months. I'll continue to use it until the roads turn white and fluffy. I've also washed it twice since having it. Proper bikes should be ridden [emoji6]

  13. I would recommend acf50
Millie monster was stood outside with two covers for two years and was sprayed in acf50 after every wash I gave her
She looked as good as when she went undercover no rust
I'm positive she stayed good looking because of acf50

  14. will it work on my face?

  15. I used to commute through winter but tbh I got fed up with all the faffing around getting geared up, only then to realise my bike keys were in my pocket under 3 layers of gear. I also hate being cold and/or wet and got sick of my supposedly waterproof gear leaving me with a damp groin and a big wet stripe from belly button to neck (can nobody make a bike jacket with a proper sealed zip?). I think most bike gear is shoddy quality in terms of waterproofing and they need to take a leaf out of the ski/snowboard wear book. In fact now, I wear my snowbarding jacket over an armoured bike jacket if I'm going out on a cold or wet day.

Oddly though although I don't really commute unless I'm going to a court where it's a massive ballache to get to on public transport, I do ride for pleasure all year round, except when it's icy. I don't mind wet roads but I don't really like riding when it's raining as I can't see through my visor properly (yes, Mr Lorenzo, I'm talking to you).

I'm not worried about the bikes getting wet or salty as firstly they get ACF50'd, secondly, bikes are there to be ridden and not just looked at, and thirdly, if a fastener gets furry or rusty then it can be brought back to as new with Hammerite rust remover gel or, worst case scenario, replaced with a new one.

  16. No

  17. I plan on using my 899 a bit over the winter, depends on what the weather does.

If it's dry and the roads aren't salted i'll be out :upyeah:

  18. I got my KTM Adventure specifically for the winter as I'm hoping KTMs deal with crappy weather and salt better than the Ducatis do. I dont mind the rain if I have to go out in it but I'm not taking the Ducati out on gritted roads. I came into work on the Panigale this morning and it feels pretty weird and vulnerable after the nice standup looking over traffic position on the KTM in the London traffic.

  19. Ice or road salt/grit will prevent me from taking either of my bikes out. Not much else.

The grottier the conditions, the more likely I'll choose the 750 over the 999.

  20. As a London commuter myself, I don't think I could take a panigale in unless I was heading straight off to a trackday after a flying visit. The high up position of the multi (and of course your KTM) certainly makes you feel less vulnerable.

Isn't it a bastard though that SUV and van mirrors are now made at the exact height of our bikes.
