2-piece Leathers & Trackdays

  1. Hi all,

Just in the market for my xmas pressie from the wife. Looking for a 2-piece set of leathers that I can wear as just the jacket in summer, and also take on track. I understand they can be a bit fussy about the zip that joins the 2 together. Having been in store, the 2-piece 'sets' had jackets that were incredibly short. You couldn't wear them with jeans without it looking like a crop top. The joining zip however, went all the way around the wearer making it very track day friendly.

The mix-n-match jackets and trousers only had half zips that zip the back, and then stop at the sides. I've had these in the past and been fine for the one track day I used them on but have heard others get denied entry because of it. The jackets on these sets were a lot longer though and actually covered your belly button.

    I'm not a weird size, 6ft size 46ish.

What's people's experience of the half zip type on track?

  2. Was told you had to have full zip when I did my first this year - No limits

  3. Always been checked at Brands and my 2 piece leathers of choice is made by Dainese. I have a mix and match lot of leather and fabric and all jackets and trousers fit each other. Andy

  4. It was Dainese I was trying. The proper pairs had stupidly short jackets when I tried the jacket on separately. How far round does the zip go on your mix and match ones? All the ones in the shop went round the back and stopped at the sides.

  5. I'm actually thinking of getting a mix and match and taking it to a tailors to get a full zip put in

  6. Full zip. I have to own up to being a bit of a tart, apart from a pair of D dry fabric trousers, all my stuff is Danese branded as Ducati. Andy

  7. View attachment 60061 I had a 2 piece frank Thomas with a zip most of the way around for my track day

Saved me in my accident too :)

  8. Sport leather jackets always will be really short, u wouldn't wear one causally on the bike with jeans without showing off your arse, different manufacturers use different zip gauge and some are reversed, but for track you need minimum '3 quarter zip' unless it's changed since summer, mainly because most leathers have about 3 inches missing across the belt loop but are zipped all around the back

  9. I wouldn't worry about the jacket being short. I've got two piece leathers and I find when I'm off the bike and walking about and getting hot that its generally the jacket I take off and not the trousers. :Smug:

  10. It's not my fault for being a tart and wanting Dainese. My wife likes the logo and will only buy me Dainese ones and who am i to complain :tearsofjoy:

They were all 'sport' ones I was trying on but the paired set jackets were 2" shorter on the body so showed off a bit more than your arse. The jackets and trousers separately, were the usual scenario of 'lean forward and get a breeze down your arse' which is fine.

  11. Most track day operators allow one piece or two piece full zip together.

Really you're much better off with a one piece for track as they have better mid-section stretch and flexibility than zip together two piece jobs.

I've got both types - tend to use two piece for the road, one piece for track.

Good near new bargains to be had on eBay.

  13. I've got a pair of Quality black leather bike trousers in mint condition with padding in all the right places! Never been off in them so all good with working zips - 34"/36 waist - free if you wanna collect them but I'm not getting involved in posting sorry

  14. Trouble is i'm a resting 36" waist, 34" when I cut carbs and do some running and given the choice... hello 36" waist leathers ;)

  15. But an old British bike with kickstart only then when it doesn't fire up after 15/20 kicks you have to bump it up and down road. You will look like Beckham in 6 weeks!

  16. You can always spot a British bike owner cos they start or try and start their bike before putting helmet, gloves, jacket etc on

  17. i got two piece richa leathers mate very good and used them on track before i got my one peice, and i use just the as you said in summer with jeans.

  18. Decided to go for the separate ones as the jacket is longer. Will take it in somewhere and get a full length zip fit. Looking at Dainese Super Speed C2 jacket

  19. If my old ajs stopped in the right position it would fire up just by retarding the ignition . Sometimes .
