Anyone A Ford Fan?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by d8mok, Nov 24, 2015.

  1. i has a 74 capri 2ltr ghia only just scraped it recently had it from new. my intention was to put the fiat 20v engine in it. but rot got the better of it. couldn't source wings or other body panels for it. back in the late eighties/early nintys i worked in a garage that did mostly German makes, but we got the odd XR2/3/4's in, i genuinely believe on my test drive drive route around the single track coastal route the XR2 was far superior than any German incantation. and listen to this.. more durable also.

  3. I wouldn't be seen in anything other than a fast Ford when I 1st started driving.

Off the top of my head, I've had -
    Escort MkI RS2000
Escort MkII Mexico (With a 2ltr engine)
    Escort MkII RS2000
    Capri 3.0s
    Capri 2.8injection x 3
    Capri 2.8injection Turbo Technics
    Sierra RS Cosworth
    Sirerra Saphire RS Cosworth

I'd love a 3dr RS Cosworth in the garage today, but can't justify it.

I couldn't get away with them when they moved to front wheel drive, Fiesta & Escort RS Turbo etc. I then moved onto other things. Strange that my current car is a FWD 220bhp hot hatch, but reminds me so much of my Cossie.

  4. My plumber (self employed one man band) turned up last week in a T5, which he said cost something like £30k eek !!!

  5. bit of a dark horse(NPI) then, and that's just the Fords!!

  6. Loved Fords ever since my Dad had a Consul GT 3000 in the 70's which was a fantastic car. My first car was a Mk2 Escort 1.3 Ghia, Oyster Gold with vinyl roof, Wrote it off about 2 months later hitting every panel against a wall when lost back end on a leaf strewn road. Haven't owned a Ford for years though but tried to talk the wife into getting an ST a couple of years back. Failed miserably as she went for a Type R.

  7. the advantages of owning a ford in the past where obvious, cheep, cool and easy to maintain at home. they seem to have lost that in recent years.

  8. but also got caught up not only by Vauxhall but suddenly a flood of rapidly expanding car makers. Bet you remember clearly the day they axed the Mk '5' Cortina and suddenly the new Cavalier got a foot-hold. Took Ford years of honing the Sierra before it could compete in that class again.

  9. yip. would it be to much of a thread deviation to mention the vauxhall gte and sri range in my opinion where quicker than the xr range?

  10. probably is, but let Tel do his worst :smileys:. agree ^ Ford in europe must have wondered what hit them, those German developed cars were nearly all amazing weren't they?

  11. i liked the 6 cylinder bmw's of that age but the rest sucked in my opinion.

  12. I meant the 'Vauxhalls' i.e. Opels in disguise. Astras, Novas, Cavaliers, etc

  13. ah, yip, much better build quality, some where a wee trickier to work on but by today's standards, a walk in the park.

  14. I had soft spot for the 325i Sport in Dolphin Grey. Still a stunning car imo.

  17. The Opel Monza was a very desirable bit of kit, and the larger engined cartons, rekords and senators were decent, too.

  18. a friend totally restored a magnum? i think it was called bright yellow looked like a big viva rolled it two weeks after putting it back on the road on the lower deeside road aberdeen, not long after that he totaled his dads low millage mk1golfGT on the same corner.

  19. There's a place near here which sells mainly Lotuses, Maseratis, a bit of other exotica and.... Ford Mustangs.
I had a squint through their window yesterday, hoping to catch a glimpse of the new Mustang. They had a couple in black or dark grey, but they also had three from this (or last) year. I have to say that the older ones look meaner and more muscly. They have more presence. Probably not such good cars, but if I wanted refinement, would I want a Mustang in any case? What you want is that V8 idle burble. I lust after the 2014 Mustang (with some tacky mods and go-faster stripes, of course).

  20. This is my Ford, best van i've ever owned.
I use it everyday and in just over a year 40,000kms no problems at all.....
