999 Cant See Behind!!!!!!

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by postmaster, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. Hi
during first long ride (70 miles) it became obvious the mirrors
are utterly useless. I kinda new this already but had hoped it
    wouldn't be this bad.
SO can anyone recommend any mirror extenders or is a
bar end mirror the way to go?

  2. Sit backwards if you want to see behind on a 999 - bad isn't it, but you will look cool

  3. I fitted extensions on my 848 worked ok if blurry sometimes, just fitted bar ends on my 821 surprisingly good even though they're small. Look loads better IMO too...

  4. Thanks for that.

Think Ill get a cheap set of ebay to see if I get on with them.

  5. Not good at links and stuff but mine were from a uk seller a motor factors in Southampton I'll try and find some info. They were about £15 delivered including nice shiny black bar end mounts. Look good and rock solid.

  6. Head down, elbows out, squint at the blurry glass,

If there's no blue flashy thing, turn throttle...

  10. I kept my original mirrors but added an Oberon Streetfighter bar end mirror to the right side.
It is small and discreet but fills in the blind spot immediately behind perfectly. The Oberon has a clever design that allows it to sit just over your right hand, so it adds almost no width to the bike. It's beautifully made and not too dear if you go for the smaller version.
    Highly recommended.

  13. Well Italian rules were ok when I was younger but now I get nervous changing lanes without a good rear view.
I v ordered some mirrors, and will post a pic when fitted

  14. I've gone the opposite way. A just sold the DP mirrors that I could see out of and went back to the standard mirrors simply because I like um better ;)

Go for the small bar end mirror and keep the standard mirrors.

  15. The Funky Chicken is you're friend here.....to see in the mirrors you just lift your elbows and you can see through the gap between your arms and body, looks like your doing the chicken dance but works well enough :). I tried for ages to find extensions but gave up, now I don't think i would bother.

  16. well the bar end mirrors arrived but sadly do not fit. The right one jams the throttle.
Will stick with the originals. Funky chicken it is.

  17. What mirrors are you using Old Rider?

  18. I absolutely agree with you in principle..and if I had any corroborating evidence I would share that ....

All I know is I left an RS 3,4 and 5 for dead last year all the way up to 59 mph.....
