St2 Vs St4

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by dikvdyke, Apr 29, 2016.

  1. I have seen a nice ST4s for sale. I do love my ST2 for lots of reasons. Does anyone think it's worth looking at the ST4 as an upgrade or are we nit picking over minor differences?

  2. The ST4s is a stonking bike, 996 engine and Ohlins suspension. Had mine for 10 years before I was seduced by a 1200s Touring Multistrada. Andy

  3. It is all about the Desmoquattro - the best engine that Ducati have ever made in my opinion. The state of tune that it is in on the ST4s is perfect I reckon - in many ways I prefer its character to the engine in my 996SPS. Servicing is a bit more involved that the 2-valvers though. Take it for a test ride and you'll know :)

    Here's mine ...

  4. I've had the st2 and the st4 but not the bigger st4s. I preferred the st4 delivery though, even to my current st3s and passed away 999.

  5. Thanks for the replies. It would be nice to have both in the garage, but unfortunately unrealistic on my budget. I will post you how I get on with the test ride.

  6. I had an ST2 in 1998 and loved it. However, once I rode an ST4S there was no going back and have owned three now, having recently P/E my 2002 ST4S because my wrists ache too much after 20 mins or so, even with the bar-risers[age and inflammatory joint disease]. The power delivery is perfect. Everything is well balanced, and reliability has never been an issue. I love my Multistrada, but the ST4S is the best value and most interesting bike of that vintage available.
