996 Just Bought A 996 As A Non Runner

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Simon-Ducati, Sep 24, 2016.

  1. Hi guys just bought an 02 996 as a non runner. The engine turns over but I have no spark. I've swapped the Ecu and relays under the seat with no such luck. I can't imagine both coils have stopped working any ideas?

  2. Pick up in front of the waterpump is worth checking.

  3. Simon, does the fuel pump switch on when the ignition is turned on, is the neutral light working, are you getting oil pressure light, do the lights and indicators work, is the side stand switch operating, are both fuses under the seat intact, is an alarm fitted???. Any number of issues are possible, you need to list all that works and all that does not which will help to work out where power is going and where it should be but is not

  5. Yes fuel pump turns on I've tried different fuses etc it did have an alarm fitted which no longer works could be with a look

  6. Crank sensor if you have no spark
    ??

  7. if it's an old-ish Datatool alarm I would remove it immediately just for starters (npi) as this alone has been the cause of non-starting.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  8. If its a META 357 let me know by pm and I will pm you instructions to quickly by pass the alarm

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  9. Hi cookster how do I find the crank sensor pal?

  10. look on the left side of the engine there should be a sensor bolted though the case with an allen key bolt theres actually 2 sensors on this engine you might only have 1 at the front by the top water pump hose.

  11.
  12. Hi Denzil just had a look and it is a meta 357 t2 alarm fitted

  13.
  14. Thanks will have a look the 996 is packed tightly away in the garage. If it is a crank sensor is it an easy fix or expensive?

  15. there about 120 quid front ducati, easy to fit just unbolt it and bolt new one in, just remember to count the spacers on it as that alters the pick up gap.

  16. daylight robbery innit? last one I bought new was around £40 not that long ago - might be worth checking interchangeability with Fiat group as (from memory) some vehicles use(d) very similar/identical sender.

  17. wasn't @chrisw forming a list of interchangable/cheaper parts a while back?

  18. ^ looking like a bit of a labour of love/red herring possibly and probably the reason I gave up looking last time.
Would be good to confirm (Bosch/Magneti Marelli) part number for future searching.
