Honda Vtr1000 Firestorm

Discussion in 'Ducati Bikes For Sale' started by Troutman, Oct 23, 2016.

  1. Thinking of selling my VTR to put some money towards a 749/999.
It's a 2000 plate with 16kmiles. Lovely condition, new back tyre, new Honda CCT's just fitted.Totally Standard, runs perfect, very reliable V twin Japanese sports bike with a relaxed ride. I've had it for 3years and had some great rides on it however I really want a 749/999 so need to make space.

    Looking for £1950..

  2. Should sell at that price :)
Go for the grunty 999. Same size and weight, more power, better spec. Love mine.

  3. V T R 's are nice bikes (I have ridden a few, well a red one and a yellow 1 ) but a Ducati they are not (Honda build quality though they do start to look a bit shabby and greater service intervals to name a few benefits) .
A friend has just got a 1999 one for 850 , 30k miles on it , yellow and with history .
Bargain of the year if you ask me .

  4. They are cracking bikes, build quality is top notch, they age very well indeed but if abused like most things they will look a bit tired.£850 is a total bargain..they will do big mileage as long as the CCT's are kept good or manuals.
They are nothing like a Ducati although on paper they should be the same, my 1000ss is 85hp, the VTR 100hp but the SS is faster and way more fun to ride...the Firestorm would be a good bike to rack up some mileage or keep good and enjoy..it turns in easier than the SS but I prefer the SS. I want another Ducati basically.

  5. Racking up miles on a VTR needs plenty of fuel stops. Usually got 80 miles to the tank. Heavy old bus!

Sold this for £1k a few years back with ~12k on the clock.

  6. Nice cans..They would be worth £300, I reckon if I put a set of those on mine and had the forks rebuilt I would end up keeping it.
N..nothing like an SP, much better as an everyday bike but on the track...well!

  7. It had Ohlins rear shock and Hyper fork internals iirc along with Harris rearsets.

No suggestion the VTR is comparable to the SP, just illustrating how great the 999 was/is.

  9. I thought that..it seemed like a good test too, no one particularly liked the Aprillia which the 1st gen was raved over by all.
For the 999 to come out top over those 2 , especially the SP1 is quite a thing..now to sell my VTR and get one.

  10. That was an SP-2
Try and get an S version if you can. More power and Ohlins suspension. They cost a lot more when they were new but not that much difference now. Mine's a base version but it's been tweaked and gives 130bhp at the back wheel - usefully more than any of those bikes tested there. The power is still extremely linear and smooth though, it just pulls and pulls...
