Hi All, I Have A 97 St2 Needing Clutch Replacement

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Graeme Cook, Feb 22, 2017.

  1. My rattly clutch has got he better of me. I'm going to replace the basket & plates, but what's good value out there? First company I contacted quoted me £600 but they're much cheaper on ebay etc. Any advice gratefully received, thanks in advance.
PS Bike has covered 24000 miles.

  2. If you can go for aluminium basket and clutch plates. Last longer due to less mass

  3. whatever you do, make sure you go with steel/steel or Al/Al. i.e. if you get an Al basket and steel plates, the basket will wear very quickly, and vice-versa, although a set of plates is much cheaper than a basket, so if anything could be considered "sacrificial" then it would be the plates.

I haven't changed the basket out on my dry clutch yet, but have done the plates once, and found a set of Barnett plates for around £60 on ebay, so might be worth looking for the bits separately.
