1299 Screen Removal - No Limits Spanish Event

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by RSVRollo, Mar 12, 2017.

  1. Looking for some advice/knowledge please.

I'm heading off with No Limits to Parc Motor nr Barcelona at the end of April and their latest info on the event states that the screen needs to be removed for transporting in the stillage. Obv. if the screen needs to be removed then so will the mirrors (good thing for track). The final point states that their track events are limited to 105db which will be an issue with the Akra cans fitted.

So, I have 3 questions I would appreciate your thoughts/experience on:

    1) having read how much of a pain it is to take the screen off (losing the rubber grommets), can someone confirm if this is really necessary with No Limits for transporting?
    2) if I take the mirrors off and leave them off will an error be reported on the dash that will drive me mad for 3 days?
    3) does Parc Motor have a strict noise limit at 105db?
    4) where can I pick up a roll of clear film to wrap up the bike/tools/tyres in the stillage?
    5) any other tips for prepping my pride and joy for this trip?

    Thanks for any responses.

  2. Forgot to add that I will speak with No Limits but wanted to get a real-world view before accepting the corporate line...

  3. If the bike pallets are stacked, screens on some bikes are too high and get crushed. Not sure why taking the mirrors/indicators off should throw an error on the dash. If Parc Moto has a noise limit, it will be the only Spanish track mentioned on here that has. That said IIRC Parc Moto isn't in the middle of nowhere but their web site is pretty good so may give you confirmation. Costco or Bookers will do long reels of cling film. If you anticipate changing tyres/wheels take the rear wheel socket because the tyre man may not have one. Wrap tyres individually as favourite place to secure is flat, on top of the bike. Pack tools/tyre warmers/leathers in bags not rigid boxes and have more small bags rather tha 1 or 2 big bags. If you can imagine 2 bikes side by side, nose to tail, the space you get is between the 2 bikes. Enjoy and have fun. Andy

  4. I am booked on this trip. I went to Portimao twice last year with NL and removed my screen as it sits high with being an ex TT machine but nobody else did.
I think this is a new thing, maybe they have had a few screens damaged lately, I will take mine off anyway.
Search packing cling film on ebay for the clear wrap.

  5. I've never seen anyone remove a screen for a euro event but I have seen lots damaged so that's probably why the event info says this. Tyres are usually stacked on top of the bike and it's very easy for these to get caught on the lorry roof or by other bikes when stacking on the trailer and they then move and damage the screens. I very much doubt it would be re-inforced; it will just be so it's your own responsibility if it gets broken.

  6. Removing the screen? Best to practice removing the nose-cone before you go, so that you know how it's done and where everything goes. Screen removal and re-attaching is so much easier with the cone off the bike. I got a little twig stuck between the screen and the dash on mine, so decided to attempt its removal by just taking the screen off. Bad move! Two detached screen grommets later and I was having to take off the cone in order to retrieve them from the cooling fins on top of the headlight unit.
I think (though haven't tried it so not certain) that you will only get a dash error if you attempt to signal a left or right turn with the mirrors off. I think it will go away when next engine off/on occurs. Try it before you go!

  8. im going on this as well but taking my zx10r, so will keep an eye on this thread

  9. Have never removed a screen. Depends on your bike :)

  10. I removed mine and someone climbed in the lorry while we were waiting for the forklift to unload us at Donington. He trod on my screen in the crate and broke it!

May as well have left it on.

  11. Hi
i will be doing the parc motor trackday with shakeys dad. I have been away with NL a few times and have never had to take a screen off. First time at parc motor , but have never been noise tested at any other European circuit. If you have DB killers , take them , just in case.
Dont forget your bike key , when you fly over.
Dont forget to get an E111 medical card if you havent got 1 already ( free from NHS )
If you are taking tyre warmers you will need a european plug adapter.

  12. The reason NL are telling people to remove screens lately is that they had a new batch of stillages built which were supplied with shorter uprights, these are being replaced but will take some time. Why would not having mirrors show up on your dash? like everything in life you need get cargo wrap from ebay couple of quid for a roll that will last ages. Make sure its clear though.

  13. Removing the mirrors and indicators doesn't cause a dash error.

Removing the headlight, atmospheric temp sensor, rear light and side stand cut out does.

You can buy a DP wiring kit with specific terminating blanks for these parts which prevents the ECU errors.

  14. I think It would be wise to have some sort of repatriation medical cover. God forbid it should happen, but repatriation under medical care is frighteningly expensive I believe.

  15. You aren't allowed to ride on a Euro trackday with the British companies without repatriation insurance.

  16. Yeah, sorted the repat insurance through sorrymate.com - simple enough and only £25.
