Motogp Assen 2017

Discussion in 'Touring' started by Daddy2coull, Sep 23, 2016.

  1. Hi folks. I'm planning to travel to assen for the 2017 MotoGP. It's never taking the bike out of the country before but I intend to travel through the tunnel and ride up. I've already been looking to book a hotel for three nights but it looks like a lot of places are booked already.

Does anyone have any advice for the journey?

  2. Martini Hotel Groningen. 20 mile away. Great city. Mini Amsterdam with all the dutch delights.

  3. Calais to Assen is about 300 miles, and all on good roads. 6 hours riding if you don't rush. If you are not accustomed to continental touring, Assen is a gentle introduction. Good luck.

  4. If riding take good locks. Plenty of bikes go missing.

  5. From the circuit or just generally in holland?

  6. Circuit and hotels around it when big bike events on. Allegedly, a very famous Dutch used Ducati parts supply business always has a big influx just after MGP and WSBK...

  7. Didn't lock mine up there this year. Couple of month old 959 maybe not desirable? ;) I didn't hear any stories of missing bikes whilst we were there either. I suppose with there being so many, you'd be unlucky for it to be yours.....

  8. We stayed in Zwolle. A bit further out, but a really nice spot with plenty of bars.

  9. Take your rain-gear and a woolly jumper as the weather is unpredictable to say the least! It's a great event though. There are a couple of decent towns to stay in nearby, Groningen is prob the best though Assen itself goes mental for the MotoGP. Depending on your budget, if you book through someone like Poleposition Travel who specialise in MotoGP and motorsport events, they have a hotel within walking distance to the track (I'm not affiliated with them in any way BTW). If you're camping, some of the trackside campsites look like something out of Mad Max by Saturday night! :) As for the ride, I set my TomTom to Medium Windy roads and amble up from the Tunnel if you have a day to spare. Dutch roads are nice and you'll get to ride through a bit of France and Belgium too. Motorways are quick and efficient but fook they're boring!

  10. TBH probably no worse than Brands or other BSB rounds that have a few bikes go missing, but certainly heard of lots more related to Assen.

And no, no one wants a girls bike :p

  11. mercure hotel booked and paid for just out of zwolle, according to the sat nav it should take us 40-45 minutes to get to the track. just got to book the tunnel tickets now :)

  12. We stayed in a lodge in a nearby upmarket centre parks about 20 mins from the circuit.

lodge was well equipped and there was a swanky restaurant on site.

We didnt take any locks and the bikes (three Pantigirdle S) were fine.

    Book grandstand tickets.

  13. We're all booked up, staying on a campsite around 40mins walk from track/assen, €80 for 2 people and booked our tickets through Bookmoto.com have done for years and cannot fault. However we're taking the ferry to Zeebrugge and making our way up.

  14. We stayed in Zwolle. Lovely little place for eats and beer at the end of the day, and felt better about the bikes being 40mins from the "action". It is nice to ride in in a massive convoy to the track as well.

  15. I've always stayed in Amsterdam and ridden up on the day. The Rho hotel just off Dam square is my favourite with secure parking.
