1299 Aftermarket Front Discs - Advice Needed Asap

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by burndownthediscos, Apr 18, 2017.

  1. Hey folks,

I've got a horrific service bill for my 1299. It has eaten a set of discs in 7680 miles. I don't want to fork out £620 for OEM.

Can anyone advise if they have tried any other makes that compare well and where you got them from.

I've seen BikeHPS do the Serie Oro brembo for £434.

    Cheers.

  2. If you have only ridden on the road then I would be onto Ducati asking why they have worn out so quick and asking for a goodwill gesture at least.
    How old is the bike?

  3. Bike is 16 months old. To say i'm flabbergasted is an understatement. Like you say if I'd been hammering them on trackdays fair enough.

  4. On my first service 600miles I was rather surprised at how much the front pads had worn.

My 899 in a year and a halfs worth of ownership and a fair few trackdays had worn only slightly more...

  5. Any pics of the discs? First set of pads? Doesn't sound right at that road mileage....

  6. How many sets of pads have you gone through? Do you think maybe not matching the pads and discs could have worn the discs more quickly?

I know that some compounds can be more abrasive on the disc but that's the toss up of paying more for the pads I guess.

I may be off the mark but just what I discussed with a friend who knows a bit more than me

Hope you get a set for a decent price

  7. I think he may be lucky and they'll probably be considered a consumable item. If the bike is 16 months old, it'll be under warranty. It'll be interesting as to what they say.

  8. Will be interested to hear more views on this. Do SBS or EBC's cause more/premature wear?

    If so , false economy?

  9. I've just got a set of Brembo HPK discs for my 899 as my originals were having too much vibration at hard braking. Haven't had a chance to fit them yet as they arrived after I went back to work but they've got a bit more meat than OEM.
I'm on 13k miles though so near double yours.

  10. Any thoughts guys? Mixing pads & discs?

    @burndownthediscos , any progress?

  11. Surely it has to be a warrantee replacement at no cost to you??

  12. Not covered by warranty. This and the laundry list of warranty and non-warranty parts that need changed and replaced means I'm 99% certain I'm getting rid. Decision tomorrow. Love, love, love the bike but cannot be bothered with it anymore and it's clear we aren't suited to each others needs.

Bought an 899 in Nov 14 which had to replace with a 1299 in Dec 15. I've visited the dealer every single month since Nov 14 with an issue. It just wears you down.

Stick to OEM pads is my advice. Just start saving as soon as you buy the bike.

  13. Fully agree on the OEM pads (for road use) and never got on with EBC anyway, original front discs on my 748 are approaching 39,000 miles and still have loads of wear left in them.

  14. EBC pads are renowned for eating discs.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  15. A couple of years ago EBC made "normal" organic pads, which I am happy with on an ABS equipped bike, or the "HH" version that are very hard and do wear discs very quickly. As is normal everyone wants the ones that they perceive is better and that is the HH pads, but don't realise how quickly they wear the discs.

  16. Are Brembo SA ok to use?

  17. Yes, I run the SC and although they have only lasted a handful trackdays and some road miles they stop the bike well on track. It's all a bit of compromise I guess. Depending on what your using the bike for etc.

    Safe riding :grinning:
