Diavel Suspension - What Are The Best Suggested Settings

Discussion in 'Diavel & XDiavel' started by Carbon749, Apr 23, 2017.

  1. Have a Gen 2 standard Diavel (suspension wise), first decent ride out this weekend and I found the suspension a little harsh on the bumpy back roads.

I've read sooo many threads about settings that I'm punch drunk now.

Has anyone found a decent set up that would be a good place for me to start?

In my kit, I'm about 100kg.

I've seen recommendations for dropping the forks in the yokes, or jacking the ride height up etc etc

I've read good feedback on the following setting, is this similar to any settings used by anyone here :

You need to have zero preload and damping at the front. That will still be too much of everything at the front, its the best you can do but far from perfect. Leave the front there and fiddle with the rear.
    They these rear settings.
Pre almost all the way in.
Comp 35 out or 5 in
Rebound 21 out or 3 in

  2. I have a Gen 1 which has the same suspension set up and I'm about 95kg all up. For the forks I changed to 5wt fork oil and it was still over damped, agree that no preload and zero compression is best but I did run a bit of rebound with the thin oil. In the end I binned all the inners and bought a cartridge kit, way better but still slightly bumpy which I put down to the slack head geometery, I dropped the forks 5mm which is about as far as you can go. On the rear my bike had an ohlins fitted when I got it so the rear end has always been fine.

  3. Interesting comments on the forks, gives me confidence that the American forum may be on the right wave length.

Just need some feedback on the standard rear shock, before I go and start tweaking.

  4. I tried everything to get the stock suspension to work , to no avail . front is too hard , rear too soft
Replaced the fronts with Andreani cartridges and it was a different bike completely - ran like this for a while before swapping out the rear for a Nitron R1 which made it perfect for UK roads
It was the best upgrade for a grand I've spent on a bike , ever

If you're on a budget and not a real heavyweight , do the front first

  5. Would you mind explaining the cost break down in rough figures, PM if you like.

    Front Carts
    Rear shock
    Labour to fit

Then I can start to think about saving up.

    Thanks

  6. yeah I agree, the stock Diavel suspension lets the whole bike down, aftermarket will get you a better bike. if you change the rear shock check the linkage rose joint, they fail quickley and are cheap to replace.

  7. Andreani cartridges are about £400, if you are anywhere near the south try X Bikes near Kings Lynn, Chris there did my frok work and swapped out the rear spring and rose joint

  8. From memory - I got the cartridges for 400 , Nitron for about the same if a little more
And 2 or 3 hours of labour @ PDQ Taplow

As I opted for the Nitron R1 without preload adjuster , the rear swap was quick as I asked to disconnect the pre-load hose rather than removing the swing arm
