748 How To Make It Less Ouch

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by RC1, Apr 23, 2017.

  1. Had a quick 30 mile workout on the bike first time in ages... its awesome but im clearly not man enough for it so what you guys think to make it a bit more comfortable....

    - oberon clutch slave
    - rearsets
    - new wrists
    - just get on with it man

    Anything else?!

  2. After the winter lay off my wrists tend to ache a bit but as I ride more often I get used to it and don't notice as much.
Nothing altered on my bike other than the clutch slave.

  3. how is it with the new clutch slave?

  4. Riding faster gets the weight off the wrists

  5. You have to ride it more. Each year it takes me a month to get the core strength and conditioning back (having not used the bike for 4 months) to a point where I can drive the bike as it should be. Each ride is a gentle work out but I use the bike as much as possible during the week and have a 17 mile out of town commute. If you are dipping in and out and not using the bike regularly you will always be chasing it.

  6. Enrol in a pilates course. Great for strength and there's nothing like some down-dogs and planks to strengthen the wrists. Works for me

  7. Core strength and seat time. No other substitute really.

  8. Buy a pair of cheapo Chinese bar risers! they change the angle of the clip-ons to make them more level, which for me makes it far more comfortable.

  9. Link?
The 999 is allegedly more comfortable and I never have a wrist problem as I find mountain biking really hardens your wrists up. I do get a sore neck though from holding my head up :/ I bought a light carbon helmet but it wasn't a cure.
    More riding does help.

  10. OR once I have 748 body condition the 999 is a breeze but strangely not as easy on rear observations. The 999 is too easy to speed and so I had to get a small bar end mirror (got lit up by a Cardiff constabulary unmarked black X5 on the M4 on the way home from buying the bike). He passed waving an index finger after I pulled into lane 1.

  11. I too have a small bar end mirror. It's a real boon cos as you say, speeding is all too easy.

  14. More saddle time it is then!

Amazing how physical riding one of these is. How did john mcguiness get so good being the portly type he is though? I'm aching all over after 30 mins but in fairness ive ridden less than 1000 miles in my entire biking career. Says a lot doesn't it?

  15. Stomp grips are good to keep the weight off the wrists and to use your core by giving more grip with the thighs
If you're holding yourself up on wrists you will always find it hard work

  16. Personally I would say the best way is to get out and ride the bike on a regular basis and get yourself more physically in tune with the set up. I don't ride as often or as far as I did a few years ago when I would quite happily do a couple of hundred miles or more in a day's riding. Took me quite a while to adjust but was a good incentive to go out for a ride whenever possible. Never changed any parts from standard and never really had any problems.
