Dzus Fasteners For The St ???

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by broadie, Apr 29, 2017.

  1. Hi
Can anyone advise me on the Dzus Fastener parts needed for the ST please? I.e. what length fastener and type on rear , clip over or rvit on.
Or is it incompatible with the wellnut system?
    Many thanks broadie

  2. Desmo Times does a complete kit, you will need the male (which is the fastener you see) and the female receptacle that sits in your fairing.

  3. Thanks Pete
Can you tell me if it's the 14 or 16mm that I need?

  4. If you go for the longer one, you can always put a nylon washer in if necessary and probably a good idea anyway.

  5. I remember one canny tip (that I admit Ive not tried) replacing the long mirror bolts with stud bar so that instead of searching for a thread one is simply placing nuts onto stud.

  6. Thanks guys. Had a further read of desmo times they recommend the longer 16mm Dzus Fastener with the clip on female for the ST.
Good tip their. Maybe a slightly longer screw fitted through the top of the mirror base, might save the need for using locktight. Will definitely look into it.

Any more tips for making the ST easier to live with?

  7. Keep your battery topped up with a trickle charger.
I can have the fairing off my ST2 in fifteen or so minutes and back on again in half an hour or so, they're not that bad really once you've done it twenty or so times...lol

  8. Get a cable kit and an AGM battery so it starts promptly.

  9. Funny you guys should mention this. I was always worried about the battery and starting, so it was always on charge.
I made up a set of 16mm² starter cables in work and I've never had to charge the battery since. Leaving the ST4 over a month is not a problem.
Completely forgot about it as it fires up like a Jap bike now. Probably the best mod I've done to it.

  10. Forgot about that, Motobatt battery on the ST2 as it's a single phase model, uprated cables are must, there was a big debate about this on the ST facebook page last week. Stick your hand under the fairing and feel the battery cables, you may be surprised at how warm they are! It certainly shocked me four years ago...
