Quick question - should a 2002 998s have a side stand switch? was able to ride off with the stand down and not a single attempt to cut out or stall. thanks, pete
yes originally, most fit a bypass to it though although you still shouldn't be able to ride off with stand down....
I have a bypass fitted on my 998 and you can attempt to move away with the sidestand down but as soon as you put it into first gear it will cut out. The idea behind the bypass is to allow idling and movement (pushing) of the bike with the stand down but any attempt to move away will result in the engine cutting out
Hmm, was able to put the bike in gear and take off with the side stand still down. i recently had the side stand off, and don't recall seeing any switches there. Will have to take a look over my manual on the laptop one day when back from my hols. thanks fellas.
You may have a different a setup to mine, there are some simple kits on eBay that just bypass the stand but don't seem to take any form of safety into account. My bypass switch came from the US originally and was made by Yoyodine.
from factory there was a switch on the stand that stopped the bike from starting at all with the side stand down. which meant you had to sit on the bike to warm it up. stupid ducati to et round this most ppl either bypassed the switch altogether (by shorting 2 of the contacts). This way the bike starts always but you can ride off with the side stand down. you can also buy a plug and play cable that sits between the stand switch and the neutral light. this works well and ensures you can start the bike with the stand down, but it will cut the engine should you leave the stand down when putting the bike into gear although if you stall the bike, you will still have to find neutral before the bike will start these cost about 15 quid , think i bought mine on ebay
