999 Grey Swing Arm Paint

Discussion in 'Detailing and cleaning' started by Cream_Revenge, Jul 9, 2016.

  1. Evening
Anyone know the paint match to the early 999 grey swing arm paint.
    TIA.

  2. You could probably buy a mint one cheaper than you can prep and paint it :)

  3. Are but then we would have a 100 page thread on how best to fit it.

  4. Stop it. I've been much better recently!!!

I just want to touch it in.

I may take it out and get it powder coated but would like to try to touch it in first.

  6. Paint???
please could someone confirm whether a 749s 2003 swingarm should be painted Grey?
I've just detailed my bike and it's defo plain alloy, I used poorboy's chrome/aluminium cleaner, worked it in with a brush and it brought it up beautiful

  7. Definitely has some sort of coating.

  8. Could be anodised / could be coloured alloy - try scratching a bit off where you can't see to see if it goes silver or not.

  9. I've not just scratched it there BTW, that's what I want to touch in. But I may have to just powder coat black.

  10. Have you a local automotive paint specialist? They can probably colour match it if so. I needed some touch-up for my SS recently and local paint place matched it 100%, I was super-impressed and if you've got someone locally to you that is recommended by local bodyshop of repute then that could be your easy option :)

  11. The grey swing arms don't look good when painted black imo :) might look better on a black bike though I guess.

  12. Powder coated gun metal grey then?

  13. As I said - you will buy a mint grey swing arm for the same money - no one want's them as theyswap to the black arms. Why not just get a Black Deep Swing Arm of a later model :)

  14. excuse the hijack!.........
cosmetic change only or are there any handling improvements to be had?

  15. Hijack away, I'm a bugger for it.

  16. They are stiffer but mainly cosmetic I guess - I don't think you would notice, not sure of the weight though - it's un-sprung so if lighter there would be a positive effect on handling, just not sure if they are actually lighter - I could weigh a black one but don't have a grey one off a bike.

  17. 500 gms lighter acording to ducati.
