996 Air Filter

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Blink., Jan 31, 2017.

  1. Good Evening Chaps, 996 SPS Air filter.
Pipercross over the bell mouth's or STD ?
    Your thoughts?
    Many thanks. Blink.

  2. Use the pipercross OEM style ones in the air tubes. Better filters, better flow, seal the tubes fully and little chance of igniting over the bell mouths. Rare but it happens. The OEM type are good value to, about twenty quid.

  3. As Nelly said above.

A few years ago I did a before and after test with over the bell mouth filters on a 996 SPS. Removing the filter gave an immediate gain of about 10 bhp with nothing else being done.

However..........my friend crashed his 853 in Almeria last week, and in the process the front tank mount snapped and the tank came loose. Lots of gravel and dust in the inlet manifolds, and possibly worse, the bikes come back at the weekend so we will see. An over the bellmouth filter might have prevented this.
