Am I Blind Or Valves Weren't Done On This Bike At 15k Miles??

Hi,are CMW Authorised Ducati main agents or just a specialist motorcycle sales/service garage? If not there is your answer

 

Well I'm no Ducati expert but there are plenty on here! I see at top of invoice it states "no real service history" which probably points to non franchise/specialist servicing? I would get it checked out fully if you are going to keep it?

 

Valve check every 7500 miles or every year whichever comes first and belts every 15000 miles or 2 years whichever comes first, as stated in the Service/Owner's manual. Andy

 

Unless it's nicking money - no history - walk! Plenty of proper kit out there with "war and peace" service paperwork

 

If you haven't bought it yet or agreed to buy it, my advce would be to walk away from a 6 year old bike with no history. It'll only come back to bite you when you try to sell it on and you will get no good will back up from Ducati if you get any problems. Andy

 

Yeah,it looks all good but he says Service History but the invoice he sent you says Service Mystery?

 

It is odd to my mind that the seller should say to the workshop that he wants to know where he is if as the ebay ad wording states he has the service book. You have the registration number so a quick phone call to an authorised Ducati workshop should tell you if and when it was last serviced by a dealer. Might put your mind at rest or just confirm it's just not quite right. Also odd the guy has been a member of ebay for 8 years and only has feed back from 3 transactions as a buyer. Andy

 

They used to be and I think it was taken away (Chichester, right?!) also had a pretty poor rep amongst the guys I know that way.

How big a job is valve clearances? Bearing in mind most probably don't do them once they start home servicing anyway...

Agreed. Valve clearances don't change with time, only with mileage done. They only need checked every 7,500 miles and adjusted if necessary. Oil & filter should be changed every year regardless of mileage.

 

If your happy with the price and condition haggle on the price and get enough discount to get the valves done,then buy the valve tool of evil bay and measure the clearances yourself,all you need is two new gaskets(or be miserable/careful and reuse the old ones!) I find my valves stay in clearance for long times,
A lot of people seem afraid to work on Ducati motors when really they are a well engineered easy motor to work on!
Keep your work space clean/tidy and be methodical it's more rewarding,
I've done all my own work for 30 yrs and have no factory service history for both my dukes! Do I care? No! I'm keeping them,and both run perfect,I do keep all the receipts for parts bought and keep a documented file with photos of everything that's ever been done,
Personally I'd buy a enthusiasts bike with docs like mine over some unknown bike a dealers is trying to make his profit on!

 

my 999R has never been back to the dealer for anything and you know what . I know my oil and filter / belts / plugs and shims have been done as I have done it . You know how many times it has failed me on many e.u. trips . 0 . I also know that a signature in a 6 year old service book means its been paid for but your only trusting its been done .

 

I've got a service history with my hyper but mines not seen louigi's yet. I'll be doing the oil changes every 3k and anything I spend on it gets logged (what gets fitted and what the mileage is). When it needs a valve Check it'll get booked in then. Everything else I'll look after.... Same with my zed and the rsv4.
