  3. Tony Martin was the start of being able to defend your property he just made a few mistakes namely it was premeditated he planned the shooting , but to defend someone else's property well ?

  4. When I had my bike stolen, I had dreams for years about going outside the door and beating them off (don't be filthy - not been dreaming about looking like a glazed doughnut :sweatdrops:).

It really gets to you and I wouldn't be surprised if someone stopping a thief went too far.

  5. Couple of months back on another forum there were links to a facebook account of one of these shitbags offering a stolen bike for sale.

The dimwit even showed his face, name, address, phone number and where he works but AFAIK nothing's been done about it. Seems the law is only interested in 'soft' targets committing compliance offences and are are too scared or lazy to confront proper criminals nowadays...

    For the record;

  6. mine went for sal
Mine was being sold for parts on eBay, from an account in the same county as me. I told the police who turned up with no warrant to make enquiries. They never made it through the front door & when they later returned with a warrant, the parts were gone. Beyond stupid!

  7. Not just London - Edinburgh is known for having a terrible issue with bike thefts at the moment - a number of tourist bikers have had their bikes stolen from the city, ruining their holiday and the FB Group I am a member of was, earlier this year, seeming to show daily reports of bikes getting stolen.
Police are powerless it seems - partly because once on the bike they cannot chase them - danger to
    a) the thief - who cares about them if they have taken someone else's property ?!
    b) the public as the rider will not be too concerned about risking life and limb to evade capture and they will therefore be willing to endanger the public.
I think in our neck of the woods there are a number of thefts being committed by a small number of individuals so it's a case of dealing with them. In London it may be there are many more individuals/hangs involved therefore harder to actually deal with.

I like the idea of a bait bike but it's easy to think about, harder to carry out.

A good few years back I remember speaking to some guys that had plenty money, ran a Escort Cosworth rally car I think, had a Ferrari F355 and also had a Cosworth road car. They stopped an attempted theft of their car and caught 1 of the guys, threatened him with either they smacked him up or he grassed up his mate. He fessed up. Then they smacked his legs up.
Those guys in the video are pretty brave - they are prepared to be violent and who knows what tools or weapons they could have had access to but I admire the guy - the person videoing the activity - he seemed to just be find it amusing, he could have helped the guy out - 2 might have had more, quicker effect.
In the heat of the moment, where there think there is a risk to their life then some people just turn away or are too scared, for others they see red and think - that could be my bike next time so try to stop them.

Another tale - I used to have a couple of MKII Escort Rs's (Mexico and RS2000) - thief-magnets at the time and I was always so afraid they'd be nicked (RS Mexico was stolen from outside my house - probably by the original seller ...).
Guy along the road from me also had a lovely MKI Escort RS2000.
Staggering back from the pub one night and I spot some guys trying to steal his car, can't remember what precisely they were doing but it was blatant that at that time of the night (think it was around 2:00am in fact) it was a theft attempt.
Car starts to move off - I jump on it ! Mad ! Car drives off and I slid off without injury. It was recovered later but in retrospect that was probably a little unwise !

  8. I do feel like we should be doing something beyond moaning. Bike manufacturers need to install good alarms, immobilisers, and frackers as standard on bikes over £5000. But until then, what can we do? I enjoyed having an old bike worth £3k, leaving it on the road everywhere, until that got stolen from outside my own damn house. Now that I've got a red Ducati I'm scared to park it anywhere that I can't see it. Parked it on a busy street in the middle of the day on Saturday with an alarmed disc lock and was still shitting myself until I got back on it.

  9. I've heard fracking is quite bad though. Lots of people campaigning against it. :tonguewink:

DukeDesmo, which forum was that from? Surprised that muggy c*nt hasn't had some nasty accident happen to his legs.

  10. Just because you don't engage a thief doesn't make you a coward.

I have faced up a few over the years, thankfully when younger and far more aggressive, normally they run off after confrontation so maybe been lucky.

But I'm not trained to fight or kill or had empathy bashed out of me in some form of military training.

So have no idea if I'd be capable of pounding some fellas head in with a pole because he was nicking mine or anyone else's bike.

  11. Bikes, unfortunately, are always going to be easy to steal I think ?
A bike can be lifted into a van by maybe 3 men ?
If it is attached to an unmovable object then, as the lock/chain used to do that is being carried by the owner it cannot be massive/heavy so it will be at risk of being disabled/removed by a determined thief.
Maybe if there were locations that bikes could be parked in that had good security would be the best solution - CCTV etc, and not just the most convenient place on the street where someone can often remove security devices without attracting too much attention.

  12. That RJ chap does tend to get a bit over excited about everything. They were clearly up to no good, but not necessarily about to steal his bike. If they were, they would have just done it!

The more people that get biketrac (or similar) fitted, the better. Not only will you personally know the moment someone tries to steal it, but it can be recovered and may give the police some indication of who took it. At the moment it is so easy to do I might consider a career change! I can totally see why a 20-something with not much of an education or job would turn to it. It doesn't mean I condone or agree with it, but whilst it is so easy and relatively un-punished, I can see why it is so attractive to them.

  13. Maybe but I wonder what the law would do to 'us' if caught riding with no number plate? I also suspect their scooters are, at the very least untaxed, uninsured and likely to be stolen.

It seems the law will pursue the 'law-abiding' motorcyclist that makes an error or commits a minor compliance offence to the end of the earth, throwing as many resources as possible a it but when it comes to stopping thieves that are clearly also dangerous thugs, they can't be arsed.

    Shame on them...

  14. It's easy to prosecute us. We have all our details registered against our numberplate, they can prosecute via post. We also won't run, fight back or stab if confronted with a police officer. These London gangs have no problem prodding your abdomen with a blade; seemingly not caring whether you die or not.

  16. I'm all of those things.

Unfortunately I have a big thing about respect and if and when this happens to me, I feel sorry for the cunt because I will make a mess of them.

This is an issue though because if someone came at me with a grinder threatening me or my loved ones it'd get me going even more. They better be sure they're going to use it, because if they are not there's a chance I'll take it off them and use it on them.

    Scum
