Had a search for bike stands and read the threads.. Im interested in the Abba skylift. So my questions, are there any good deals around, or is there a good (read cheaper) alternative? Price seems to be around £650!! Other stands on the market dont look as though they lift the bike high enough.
I have 2 Abba Skylifts - nothing compares really, I got an exceptional deal but had a 5 page magazine article at the time which showed them off :Angelic: Full bench lifts are good if you have room - you can use paddock stands on them but do strap them down! I was thinking of designing something but too busy at the moment I used to make specialist car ramps for Lotus Exige / Elise owners:
Con stands at Motea stands look good , quite cheap as well Constands Lift│Central Stand│At Motea
I paid pretty well full price for the regular Superbike stand a while back, via the ABBA website; I think they gave me some incentive by cutting the price of the adapter kits, of which I needed more than one, and the "swing arm removal kit" (which fits to pillion rest mounts) was thrown in. As it's such a good product and made in England, I have absolutely no regrets - looks like it will last me the rest of my life too!
I have the Abba superbike stand and various kits and can endorse their products - I would buy their skylift if I had the cash !
I would buy with caution, from experience could never get the balancing point right with the one I bought. The frame adaptor which was meant for a 999 never fitted, I had to get it machined to fit. Bike fell off it once, was the last time I used it.
I made my own adaptors for 999. Spark plug socket filed down and socket with cut down allen key lead soldered together.
