Cafe Racer

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by David Hales, Nov 30, 2016.

  1. ok a bit of an odd one, is the frame on a 2009 hypermotard the same geometry as a 848, 1098, thinking of building a shed x style cafe racer and I have a very nice 1300 mile hypermotard that I could use as a base, change the tank, seat unit and shorten the forks, would this work, I could sell it and buy a 848 1098, but will struggle to find one with the same mileage for the same money

  2. Cant help with regard to the question on the frame - but why does it matter?

I think a Hyper would make a very nice Cafe racer build! Also so would the older multistrada and they are quite cheap - been eyeing those lately!

  3. I 'll be interested to see how you get on if you go ahead with the Hyper as a base model.

  4. 1198 wheel base 1430mm, hyper 1455
    1198 rake 24.5 hyper 24
    1198 seat height 830mm hyper 845mm

1198 front Suspension travel is 127mm hyper 165mm
    1198 rear suspension travel 120mm hyper 141mm

  5. Older multis are a pig to cafe race...I know cos I did mine 2 years ago. Tremendous amount of sub frame to grind off..?.?

  7. Hi Nige,
That is very nice - did you have a thread in the Build Section detailing the process of converting the old multi?

  8. No, it was a personal thing just to keep me busy over a winter and see if I could.do it. Kept it for a while but sold it in the end. I did , however, make a very good profit which was not the initial motivation but a pleasant surprise.

  9. Looks good, I decided to leave it alone, prob sell it and buy a 848 or 1098
