Cagiva 1000

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by sharksqb16, Sep 7, 2016.

  1. Just took delivery of a Cagiva Raptor 1000 engine. I no its a Suzuki TL lump (Cagiva Stamp on engine). Are the engines still just Suzuki or did Cagiva change anything, other than badge it.
It going to be a project running along side my 600ss project. I have a few ideas about frames, maybe try and use ducati frame with adjustments ie swinging arm/engine mounts etc, or get a frame built for it maybe have a go at building one myself? Or can anyone recommend some one who could build a chassis for me, bearing in mind i live in W Sussex and would prefer someone in the south of England, so im not having to travel miles for discussions etc, or the simple route would be use Cagiva Raptor frame as base. Not in to ally beam frames for this and TLS frame just well ugly to me.
Any thoughts, opinions or Ideas welcome.
Yes it dose have a Suzuki engine case on it which fooled the the person i bought it off.

  2. I owned a low mileage Raptor last summer and can see the attraction for the basis of a special. You will glean a lot from the Raptor Chapter Forum and I can add a bit tomorrow when more awake. I like the std frame and I think you would be hard pushed to improve on it particularly if you are keeping the std inlet/filter arrangement as the way it nestles in around the frame tubes is quite intricate.

  3. I've had one in past...and yes they changed a few things, for example on the electronics, but follow previous advice at raptorchapter forum . Cagiva parts u'r so fkd...

  4. re: engine changes, the camshafts are slightly milder and as said, the ignition curve was changed from the TL. These were the main alterations that account for the power drop but the filter and inlet system was also compromised which some have said also altered the power delivery and may explain the power surge 'phenomenon' which can occur on opening the throttle straight after closed/overrun.

  5. somebody managed to put a TLS engine in a 916 frame so that's a possibility. If you want a frame made then Tigcraft are in Farnborough.

  6. I've got a ST2 rolling frame (no engine) with 5.5" rear wheel and alloy swingarm, I'd imagine it would take your engine without too much trouble, you're welcome to bring your engine over and try it for size, it may give you some ideas. I'm near Hastings.

  7. I've got one, or should I say, a "MATE" Who I stupidly let him take it on a promise to PAY ME LATER , 2 years+ and still no payment, sat in his garage waiting for him to sell it to pay me for it.

Has a 1060cc tls engine in it, with ktm SDR forks/yokes/bars and triumph ohlins shock, plus cutdown Akro race cans.

Was fun when I used it. Oh another thing with the Raptor (TL1000S Based) engine is they ran a heavier gen/crank weight.

  8. I take it the engine had a big bore kit. I presume Suzuki parts are changeable with raptor! Funny I had a mate many years ago, that bought a GTI seroco off me, when i went to get money off him, he had sold the engine out of it, never saw the money, not a mate any more. Thanks for info.

  9. Yep,
Bigbore was off an ex mate, who was into bigboring tl engines bigtime, then after riding my 2009 superduke R he started using sd/sdr engines.
He designed and Built a few alloy tubed superlight frame kits for the TL, then Did one for the KTM engine, which is tiny and more hp then the tl engine, oh and the sdr gearbox was basically tl yoshi spec gearbox(except for it not being superfinished) that from him, TL Tuning specialist at the time.
If manage to find old pics of the TL+KTM SDR Frame kits he did from years ago I will PM you mate if ya wanna see??
