Ducati Desmo Mk3/ Mach1 Side Panel Query..

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by AllThingsOld, Feb 8, 2017.

  1. Hi people, I'm brand new to this forum and wondered if anyone could offer some advise as to a query I have...

I own a set of Ducati Desmo MK3 and Mach 1 side panels and have been searching far and wide for any information as to where enthusiasts/ restorers can obtain such items, if such items are in demand at all?

If either items are somewhat hard to come across and only one or two may crop up now and again, what would be the chance of re-fabricating a copy of the original?(either in fibreglass, metal etc).

Would these panels have a patented Ducati shape etc? If so, would Ducati be interested in chasing a copied side panel from the 1960's/1970's?!

Any information/ advise would be greatly appreciated,

    Kind Regards,

    Matt

  4. Welcome :upyeah: what is your question? :Watching:

  5. Theres a facebook group for bevels owners and a couple of specialist spares/techs in uk, Tony Brancato is main man I believe. Dont think theres a big market for parts like that though and ducati wont be interested.

  6. Trouble is that the side panels changed so much over the years. I have a '67 Mk3 which has the same panels as a Mk1, but they are boxes not panels. The later wide case models have panels, some with air filters in and some that are just panels. The Mono Cylinder group on ebay is the best place if you are trying to sell them, but I doubt if anyone would want them as a pattern as most parts can still be bought.
Pictures on ebay would also be a good place to start.

  7. Hi Guys,

Thanks for you for the info..Apologies, the 'panels' I am referring to are toolboxes, not cover panels..:relaxed:

Thank you all again for your advice and tips so far..

  8. Are you thinking of a) making them, b) looking for more, or c) selling yours?
If a) Good luck, I agree with 900streetfighter, Ducati won't be interested
    b) try John Wittmann = [email protected] , though retired to Spain, John sells lots of NOS spares for the older bevels and singles - always worth a try
    c) Good luck

  9. Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the info on available parts and situation with Ducati etc..

After being in contact with specialists already selling these parts, my initial thinking of getting copies made wouldn't make a lot of sense!

    Many thanks again,

    All the best..

p.s. Nice bike- it looks a stunner!
