Hi All I've trawled the inter web, but can't find anything How do I get at the battery to hard wire in a charger, and is it an easy job ? Any info appreciated as that's going to be my job for Boxing day whilst the kids run themselves stupid on new toys, and I'm too stuffed and hungover to go out
Just fitted one today. Pull the battery cover by just pulling upwards from the middle. It's held in by rubber bungs and although it feels like you'll break it you won't. Once off then there is a battery bar underneath. Use a Phillips screw driver to remove the right hand side and the left side is held in by a slot of plastic so slide the bar right, then off. With the ignition off and key out unscrew the right terminal. If the screws tight then a small socket will also work. Fit your cable, do the same for the negative and work backwards to refit. No need for fairings off and takes minutes.
If you buy the Ducati optimiser, from memory, it's about 70quid, it just plugs into the socket already accessible under the seat cowl, easy peasylemon squeeze!!
Same on the 1299. Mine came with a socket pre-fitted. It is tied in just forward of the left footpeg. If your Optimate is new it should just fit. If it is older you may need an adaptor for a few pounds from Motohaus.
Thanks all for the advice It's was a really easy job - took maybe 15mins I case anyone else needs to do the same job, as per Triari's instruction above (thanks mate), you just remove the fuse cover inside the lower left fairing, use a 4mm Allen key to undo the slider bar, and this gets you straight to the terminals. They're a posi drive or an 8mm spanner, and bob's your uncle ; Pull this out of its rubber bungs; Remove this with 8mm Allen key and slide from its position towards rear of bike (pic upside down) Remove terminals (-ive first) Instal leads and reconnect (+ive first) And then zip tie lead out - I've left mine secured just below front of rear shock mount
Would've been fitted by dealer during pdi as there shipped without battery fitted. Some dealers do it, mine doesn't.
It'd make sense as its a £5 lead and if they're fitting the battery anyway, and the Ducati charger is supposedly not so good Then again, there's probably a few quid profit at the dealership when selling the Ducati item for circa £70
My dealer fitted a suitable connector to my Ctek lead, so I can plug in via the DDa+ connecter under the seat.
Thanks for this - made it that little bit easier and got my CTek lead on I got one where it shows the battery level so I can keep an eye on it easily. Only £5 from CTek!
M8 but they were very big and I took all other eyelets off and put them under to keep on; so M6 would sit on top no issues I'd say. Basically you can go either way
Just worth noting that these work perfectly with no interruption so only take the light as reliable when not touched for an hour. If you turn on the ignition or anything after it won't be reliable until everything is off again for an hour. Perfect for looking in the garage and checking all okay
