The Kentucky born Ducati rider Nicky Hayden has got off to a decent start in the 2013 Moto GP season. Hayden, who won the Moto GP championship in 2006 when he was riding with Honda, has racked up two 6 place finishes in the last two races with the Ducati team at Le Mans and Mugello and currently sits 7th in the overall standings. That being said, Hayden stressed that there is a long way to go for the team to achieve sustained success again and this starts with better bike technology.

In a recent interview the American, who has 28 podium finishes throughout his career, admitted that the new bike being developed by Ducati has not had the improvement yet that was originally hoped.

The lab bike was tested recently in Mugello by wildcard rider Michele Pirro and performed OK however for a team such as Ducati with their rich success over the years, OK is never enough.

Hayden is currently preparing himself, alongside teammate Andrea Dovizioso, for the Catalan leg of the 2013 Moto GP season which is held this coming weekend. For Ducati another strong performance is expected and perhaps even a podium finish if the two riders can push on from their relative success so far on the track this year. With Honda and Yamaha both dominating proceedings at the minute, Ducati's ride to the top is going to be a long and arduous one however with Audi now in control and with some improvements being made to their bikes then perhaps Hayden can recapture the glory that he experienced in 2006.
