996 My New 996 Sps

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Blink., Dec 24, 2016.

  1. Does any one know about the SPS standard clutch cover is it silver and just normal aluminium ?
    thanks.

  2. Grey.

  3. Martin - I wouldn't take it there. They're not very good and do not have the expertise on the older Ducs that the top indies will have. No one in the Duc community would rank a dealer stamp from Aylesbury above Geoff Baines - who I see has already been commended - for example.

  4. I ran a google search just before Christmas and it now seems to be a push bike shop? with no mention of Ducati.
I was going to phone it tomorrow to see if he still does Ducati's.
    Thanks. Martin.

  5. He does. Go to Baines :)

  6. Geoff expanded his business to provide an additional income stream after John went to France. Back on topic Geoff is the only person I let near my SPS as he seems to be the only one that gets it to run correctly, that and he sold it 20 years ago.

  7. Baines and Cornerspeed are probably the only dealers/specialists I have never heard anything negative about in (a mere) 14 years around Ducatis :upyeah:

  8. Another:upyeah: for Baines.

  9. I have spoken to Geoff today,
What a nice chap he is. Yes I am sold he gets the job he fits re plated Newman Valve lifters if needed that is just what I wanted.
so a cam belt and valve job here we come.
Thank you all for the recommendation.
    Many thanks. Martin.

  10. Excellent.

Though of course the downside of recommending him is that I'll now have to wait longer for him to get around to the few things I wanted doing...

  11. The Bike is now with him, I had a very pleasant hour with him today. He can also get me a new front Fairing from Ducati
    so all good. Thanks. Martin.

  12. Would you be kind enough to give full details of the work carried out and costs attached to said work...Tnx

  13. I love your Avatar you win the price!
    What bike do you have?
I have spoken to main dealers and indies about cam belts and Tappet adjustment.
the only way to go is someone who is happy fitting Newman lifters and cure the problem.
This is what Geoff is doing for me and ordering a new fairing and bits.
What a nice chap he is.
    thanks. Martin .

  14. Yes she's lovely! I did pinch it during a surfing session in Ducati World.....

    I have several Ducs in my collection....999, 996, 999R Fila, 1098s Tricolor, and a Cagiva Elefant 750.....

Silverstone isn't too far from me..... On Yer B is 20 mins away... Although I like to do most of the servicing myself its good to know someone honest and who isn't going to rip U off....

  15. When you say you Pinched it! you would be a lucky man.
That is a fine collection of Motor Cycles, you are a very lucky man.
Geoff is happy to do as much or as little as you like.
I all so like to do mine but I needed a stamp in the book for cam belts and Valve adjustment.
He said I could bring it down with all the fairings and bits off and save his time and my money.
That is my kind of service. He also said if I give him a bit of notice he would do the whole job with me there and show me how to do it. Never heard that before from a dealer/Indie. The standard of restoration/race prep on bikes in his shop was the best. When we spoke about his restorations the costs were very reasonable. He was also working on a bike from a top gear presenter.
Above all he is a very nice chap.

  16. May be wrong..but I think he used to do 'workshop lessons' for changing belts and stuff a few years ago. Think AndyB used to go there a lot :)

  17. Thanks @Blink. I did think after reading my post a comment about pinching would be mentioned...

Yes I agree I'm very lucky. but have worked hard all my life and now at 64 have been fortunate to be able to purchase these dreams... Also in my collection I have a 79 Bevel 900SS.... This was the model that started my love of Duc's having raced one in the 80's....

Thanks for the update re Geoff and his services... All the best sir....

  18. In Geoff's work shop on the bench were two early engines he had rebuilt. I think they were a bit older than yours but still very similar.Have you got a picture of your 900SS ?
    Nice one.Martin.

  19. Yes,, my 1st (Red) Bevel, racing at Snett in 1983...and my current (Black) Bevel..
