Had my 848 2010 delivered yesterday, exciting times all round. Took her for a short ride yesterday, no issues. Went out this morning for a 2/3 hour ride, let her breath a bit also. Pulled into Ducati Cambridge to have a look at a few things - then noticed oil leaking out of the belly pan onto the floor. Looked inside the fairing and noticed a considerable amount of oil pooled in the fairing, oil moving back towards rear tyre (along inside of belly pan) and a worrying amount finding its way onto the rear tyre. Oil leaking from the bottom oil cooler pipe. An easy fix by all accounts. I naively assumed it would be done by the end of this week.. not only does it take 4-5 days for the parts to arrive..I was then told they couldn't couldn't get it in until the middle of April. Is that normal for Ducati dealers? The parts delivery time is fair enough, but surely i/We etc shouldn't have to wait a month until the bike can even be started on? Also frustrating considering the tech took over 30mins to clean the fairing and pipe.. the new pipes could be fitted in that time, give or take. Im new to the bike industry - but this worries me. I bought a Ducati thinking having a dealer in Cambridge would be good for servicing and repairs - maybe I was wrong? Some feedback on dealers would be helpful also, if anyone has any new/nearly new oil pipes do let me know.
Do we know what the problem is? Could it be a simple matter of nipping something up or is there a split in the pipe ?
The tech said it was a spilt in the pipe - it could well be. I thought it odd that it was fine yesterday and suddenly after riding today giving problems. I appreciate pipes can just perish or spilt but part of me has a feeling it just wants tightening up? I would have got it back to my workshop and got the spanners round me but wasn't over keen on riding it 40 miles back! Have you experienced the busy schedules of dealers or has buying a machine from another dealer put me at the back of the customer service list?
I'm a little confused, if you only purchased the bike from a dealer a couple of days ago, surely they should be putting it right for you. Steve
Steve, I bought the bike from a Honda / Yamaha dealer in Scotland last week. It was delivered yesterday. I happened to be passing Ducati in Cambs today and dived in to look at some gear. Noticed the leak and spoke to one of the guys there. I have warranty with the 848 from the dealer in Scotland so they will be sorting. *I'm not keen on it going all the way back to them in Aberdeen and then coming back here* Regardless of warranty and/or problem - what if I had bought a new bike from Ducati Cambridge, a fault came up and they told me it would be a month before they could look at it.. you wouldn't be happy.
I would be putting preasure on the dealer you purchased it off to get it sorted asap. Regarding the Ducati dealer in Cambridge, that's disappointing, I don't know how long it takes to remove the 848 fairing to gain access to the oil pipe but replacing the pipe itself is a five minute job. They could be more helpful under the circumstances. Steve
Perhaps if you ask the dealer you purchased the bike from to speak directly to Ducati Cambridge they might fit you in a bit quicker. Steve
There was contact between Ducati Cambs and Eccose in Aberdeen. It didn't seem to make any difference to the 1 month wait. Hence why I cant help but think its because Ducati don't have my money from the sale. I will add that Ducati Cambridge are storing my bike until whoever is repairing it picks it up. So with that in mind, there is a glimmer of hope. However, considering its been there since 12:00pm today, they could have already completed the job. This is my first Ducati and my first bike.. sad faces all round, especially in the taxi back in full gear.
Is there any other good independent motor bike shops in your local area who all take it on and get it done faster .
I had similar when bought my 996. I ended up paying the bike transport £60 and OYB fixed the bike and the seller/dealer paid OYB. If you are not willing to wait a month you could shift it elsewhere, but you will have to pay the carriage i expect.
Ring these folks and see if they will pick it up Ducati Independent Specialist - St Neots - Cambridgeshire
Ducati Cambs have only 1 trained mechanic as far as I'm aware. I suspect that they have a solid calendar at this time of year as people are taking bikes out of hibernation, buying new ones etc. As you didn't buy from them you are in the queue - I'm sure there are lots of others with small problems that need attention waiting in the same queue. I can vouch for St Neots as they were my dealer for many years. They always did a good job for me. Ducati Cambs are my new dealer for the Monster 1200R I now own. For a smaller job like a split oil line, I'd be calling the dealer you bought it from to get the agreement they'll cover the cost of having St Neots do the work.
Thank you for advise and comments. Bike is now being picked up by M & M Motorcycles (Waterbeach) and parts being sent down by Ducati Glasgow I believe. Shame to be missing out on this weather.
Ermm.. 2 weeks on from breakdown and still no bike or even parts! Loosing patience with the whole situation. I have been told by Ducati Cambs that my part would be here last WED then THURS then FRI... ah no it will be Saturday.. it wasn't, still no parts this morning. I am not sure what their major malfunction is. Does anyone want to buy a 2010 848 with 4070 miles.. oh and a knackered oil hose!?
Further inspection has shown that Ducati Cambs misdiagnosed the issue. It is actually the cylinder cover gaskets that have gone. currently running at almost 3 weeks without a bike and set to wait another 10 days for the correct parts to turn up. My confidence in the Vindis group as a whole continues to grow..
Ducati Cambs ordered the oil cooler pipes after apparently diagnosing it. It was then picked up by M&M Motorcycles in Waterbeach who fitted the pipe. After fitting, there was still a leak - M&M suggested it was the valve cover seals - these where ordered by my self from Twin Star in Holland to avoid the stupid 10 day parts delivery Ducati offer. These where fitted this morning only to find out there is still oil!! Its laughable really at this stage. The problem is now apparently the timing pulley oil seals on the horizontal cylinder head.. I have now ordered these parts from Twin Star. My intro to Ducati ownership...
Have you tried getting your bits from Moto Rapido? If not they are highly recommended, speak to Craig or Luke and you will get your bits next day if in stock and usually within 5 days if they have to order
