Preload DES error

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by stickywicket, Apr 16, 2012.

  1. Has anyone actually had this error permanently fixed? Mine has been there since first service. I need to get it to Riders but I havent ridden for about 7 months due to injury. Is there a final solution that works where I can "guide" the tech guys to?
    Thanks

  2. I had the Preload DES error last September, 4 months later it was finally sorted.
Two new rear shocks, one new suspension ecu, then another, new clocks and finally a new wiring loom.
That was two thousand miles ago and so far so good.
Your dealer has to sort this by trial and error because Ducati UK and Ducati in Italy will offer no help whatsoever.
Should Riders have a problem, get them to contact Ducati Leeds. The guys there were brilliant and finally did
get to the bottom of it.
The best service I've ever had from a bike dealer.

  3. I've read of a quite a few bikes with the DES error.....a few were sorted with a software update, more by the suspension ECU being replaced and then as above a very few where suspension hardware got replaced...first time I've heard of a replacement wiring loom I think.

I've been unable to ride now for 6 months also Brian, hope to be back in the saddle within the next week or two....some time soon for you? Let me know when you're booked in to Riders ;-)

  4. I had the Preload DES error soon after taking delivery of my bike in mid 2010. The error first appeared when I changed settings from Touring mode to Urban mode on a very bumpy road. The throttle response and horsepower changed but the suspension setting seemed to remain unchanged. The message could be cleared by using the LHS under switch. Very annoying, took the bike to my Dealer and they ordered a new Ohlin's suspension ECU that was fitted three weeks later and solved the problem.

  5. I to had the Preload error, around Sept last year. Took it to dealers to sort. They said they needed to order some parts and to bring it back at the end of the month, (next available slot) But on the morning I was due to take it in. Bike was showing a "CAN LINE" error. Wouldn't run properly and all 4 indicators flashing. Had to get it recovered to get it to dealers.
New shock, Shock ECU and Dash. Machanic said he had to start from scratch on engine set up to.

  6. Cheers for all the replies. I will see if GT will be doing Duc servicing but they were pretty crap when they were George White. If not I will print this off and take it to Riders. Thanks again.

  7. Sorry guy's for saying this but I've been waiting for almost 2 years, I'm glad I brought a basic model without the DES.

  8. I had a DES Preload error about 6 times in the first 600 miles, back in Nov 2010, when changing between Touring & Urban. It has never happened again since the first service, and now have nearly 10,000 miles on the clock. I did discuss the fault with the dealer (Ducati Aylesbury) but as far as I know nothing was done to resolve the fault at the first service.

  9. Mine did exactly the same.....had the bike only 3 weeks, of which 2 were away in sunnier climes.....took the bike off the centre stand....DES error....started it....CAN line error, with flashing indicators and all.

(in fact Andy thinking of it now....she does have emergency flashers .... only she decides when they come on)

The annoying thing is that in that state I didn't want to ride the 8 miles to West London Superbikes, so called the AA. Their specialist took one look and shook his head haha

Two weeks of intense frustration and replacement of the suspension ecu and we were off again. I blame Ohlins...:)
