748 Rear Hub Pinch Bolts

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Messer, Jan 1, 2017.

  1. Sorry for the daft question, but I bought some replacement rear hub pinch bolts for my 748r as the originals are slightly losing their plating. Will anything be disturbed if I replace and retorque one at a time?

What is the correct torque setting?

    Thanks!

  2. Nothing will move and the bolts are torqued up to 30nm.
    Corrected.

  3. Sorry for any confusion, I just checked the torque settings 19 nm is for the front axle clamp bolts, the rear axle clamp bolts are 30 nm.

  4. Much appreciated many thanks!

  5. Messer, torque specified in the later factory manual is 31Nm (or 22.9 lb ft) +/-5% on lightly greased threads done up chain side-brake side-chain side or 1-2-1 when looking from the back of the bike. I always torque them up in that order in increments with initial set to 20Nm then 30Nm then 31Nm

  6. Mate, whatever you do, don't torque the front fork pinch bolts to more that 14 / 15 Nm. The öhlins fork bottoms have a habit of cracking if torqued up to 19.
