999 Starting

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Cream_Revenge, Mar 24, 2017.

  1. Evening.

Not sure if I'm mistaken but I seem to remember I could start my bike in neutral without touching the clutch. Starting today I had to have the clutch pulled in regardless of neutral or sidestand up or not.

Not ridden since October and done lots of changes since then.

Should she start without the clutch in?

    At least she started :)

    Cheers

  2. I don't touch the clutch when I start mine .

  3. I'm sure I never used to need to.....

  4. Completely dead without clutch so something must by up.

  5. CR someone must have broken in to your garage and modified the wiring.

  7. I KNOW! What sick individuals there are out there!

Thing is, neutral light is on on the dash so ECU must know it's in neutral so why does it not allow starting without the clutch?

  8. Dodgy neutral switch maybe, have you run the engine or better still taken it for run to get it up to temperature?.

  9. No. Still in bits. Just started to check fuel pump after putting tank back on but thought it strange I needed clutch in.

  10. If it was dodgy neutral switch surely neutral wouldn't show on the dash?

  11. Can't think it could be anything else. Does the neutral light go out when you put it in gear?

  12. Side stand switch working and all wiring connected?

  13. Think so. But its been in a lot of bits. I'll check it all over. again.

    Cheers

  14. Can't be side stand switch can it? Should start with side stand up or down if in neutral.

    Which would mean neutral switch.

But that must work or the green light wouldn't come on on the dash.

  15. I would check the side stand switch first.

  16. If it was the side stand switch wouldn't that stop the engine running with the bike on gear?

  17. Yes, when you release the clutch in gear with a faulty stand switch it would stall the bike (if ecu thought stand was down)

  18. Not that then.......

  19. Shouldn't be necessary if not in gear and side stand down
