  3. I'd be 21 then, if only.

  4. Had a beer with a few like minded people :upyeah:

  5. We were at a surprise birthday party for a friend up north. Lots of subterfuge in the build up but everything turned out well in the end

  6. Not long back from my Cousins wedding, which was perhaps one of the best I've been to. I think the last one that was similar was in North London, similar crowd in a really interesting venue.

I think I'd have changed a few things we did at ours now but that was 10 years ago. I guess it depends how much you are willing to spend. These weddings are starting to look like celb weddings, maybe it's a competitive thing.
I'm probably too tight to pay for that kind of bling.

Slightly odd location in a Barn in the middle of no where but it worked well. I suspect it was known to the brides family, as was the chef and hotel we stayed in. My cousins crowd were probably 10 years younger than the us, all hip/yuppie uni London types. My Cousin works in the Banking/Finance sector (boo hiss) but in I.T. Well spoken and better dressed, young women that looked like models. The (I assume Z list Celb) Chef was excellent, interacting with the guests, although I didn't enjoy being roped into serving a dessert master chef style. I rarely do cooking, only eating.

Happy for the couple, but I suspect his Mrs is going to be very high maintenance. I can see why he would though.

The Hotel we stayed in was a decent enough building and the grounds were stunning. No phone reception and the Wi-fi was bad.. so had to give the hotel number and extension to a member of staff at work.

Was quite pissed off when the Hotel cancelled our dinner reservation, because they were fully booked (apparently) before they took it, despite us confirming the booking twice with different staff. Told us 11/2 hours after we booked it, 1 hour before we were due to eat. When we would have ventured out sooner if we knew earlier.

With a 4 year old child that is fairly routined, it's not clever eating late(r) in that kind of environment.
I expect the food would have been excellent, I had already picked what I was having.

Moving on, we tried to get a table at a local pub which was also fully booked at 6pm. With not much else about, I guess the local pubs get quite busy.. Some well kept property, surrounded by countryside, I suspect the area was the family home and weekend retreat for those who have crash pads in London but might be wrong. Not sure if we were closer to Bristol / Cardiff. It had a Cotswold look about it but it was getting dark by then.

So out with the sat nav.. as much as I don't like giving my kid Mcdonalds, that seemed the easiest thing to do so we had to drive to a town. I rather spend decent money on good food when we are making the effort (the mrs is good a cook and where we live we have decent amenities). I rather that, than spend half that kind of money on meal that's not special, we don't go out to eat every weekend.. I suppose it's about expectation. At least with Fast food you know what to expect.

The following day when we checked out, despite booking on line. Where you obviously pay for all the options, as you do with any order vat added etc.. they wanted to charge more for the booking due to an extra bed for our son. Which we had selected with the online booking and been included in Total charge for...

Needless to say I wasn't too impressed.

Which is a shame because I'd have gone back, with a golf course and spa at the hotel.. I'd have gone back with some couples we know, without the kids. I'm sure when the hotel is running well it's perhaps up there with 5 star hotels. Maybe it was understaffed as it was busy. We've stayed in 5 star hotels in the UK that are not as well maintained, but they get the fundamentals right.

After having drinks at the bar, we wanted to leave and couldn't find anyone.. having to go to reception so they could call the bar staff, who did not respond... a person went to fetch them so we could settle up after we had checked out.

I think they need to have a management/staff meeting. I don't expect that kind of customer service at a place like that. I never do feedback normally but they got some (fair feedback) this time. I noticed they've had a couple of similar reviews. I guess it happens from time to time.

Oh well, going to take my boy to some stock car racing today. Not something I'm into but I went there as young child so it's a nostalgic thing really. I'm not sure he's that into Motorsport.

  7. Spent the morning yesterday scrubbing dirty (and more to the point, rusty) chains with a wire brush (z1000, followed by hypermotard and then finishing with the rsv4 which was the worst) and liberally soaking in wd40 as i went. A few hours of elbow grease yielded some good results. Made a start on the second season of Stranger things after that...

  8. Little run out to Llandegla this morning, meeting some mates, I’m Early!
