  1. nice professional fit/job Richard, I know someone who might be doing the same mod quite soon.

  2. I know I'm way late to this but @RickyX can you tell me what riv nut you used, as it looks like a very nice approach

  3. Cheers @RickyX

Thanks for the link, nice cheap tool too & for a range of inserts Soopa

  4. Actually just looking from your pics of the original nuts installed on the bike, they look very like Rubber Rivnuts

Need to take a look and make a decision tomorrow

  5. I believe the original ones, the brass coloured ones, are a threaded insert with a serrated outer diameter.
These have a tendency to wear over time and once they start to spin in the plastic the bolt can’t be removed.
These are common and are, for instance, used on the air box to attach the inlet runners.

  6. Oh God I know all about that my airbox ones did exactly as you describe @RickyX

They were removed and then glued in and have been fine since, but what a PIA

Still wondering about rubber to reduce vibration at M8 the rubber type look beefy enough to do the job, only thing is temperature in there might cause a melt down

    Mmmmm Decisions Decisions

  7. The rubber ones with brass inserts are called wellnuts. I don't think Ducatis have well nuts in critical places but MV's do.
There are four well nuts in the air box of early MV's the rearmost after time fall out into the air intake and then destroy the engine and they are only there to hold on a cosmetic plate
Riv nuts have many names but any nut bolt merchant will supply them. I have replaced my MV wellnuts with riv nuts

  8. Ok first big Thanks to @RickyX followed your instructions to the letter and after a few stalled attempts the Reg/Rec is now in the battery box

Decided to use Rivnuts as opposed to Rubnuts (they are similar to, but not the same as Wellnuts, saying they are Wellnuts is like saying Dual Lock is Velcro).

The reason was the hole size required for Rubnuts were pretty dammed large compared to the Rivnuts.

Rivnuts worked eventually, found them very easy to cross thread but that's probably because I've got sausage fingers and in a saner world would not be allowed to buy tools.

As others have stated about your install, once complete it's very neat indeed.......................now I wonder if I'll ever be able to get the battery box back in?

  10. Neat

  11. Good to have you back! :)

  12. Got worries about my charging output on my 749R today. It was only registering 12.9-13.0V while riding along.
Does anybody know if the kit I fitted to my 1098R (Shindengen FH020AA MOSFET regulator plus Triumph leads) is a plug and play for 749/999?

  13. I believe the early regulator/rectifier set up for the 3 phase generator is identical across the range from the later 748 onwards. Andy

  14. Cheers, I’ll get the multimeter out and measure the voltage output to check if it’s greater than 14V.

  15. 13.7V at 40000rpm...

    What’s the consensus? New Reg/rec?

  16. At 40k revs I'd consider a new engine pretty soon.:D
13.7v does seem a bit on the low side though, what does it read at Tickover?

  17. Bugger...it’s not even a V4!

    Tick over about 12V.*

    * although can’t remember really.

  18. Suppose the next thing @RickyX would be to check the Alterantor output, just to be certain before splashing out on a Reg/Rec

Just what I'd do, but I'm no mechanic
