Absolutely right. Similarly you would need a lot more than a £1million to lead a millionair's lifestyle. By a continuing process of inflation, government can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. - JM Keynes And they do it deliberately.
you will need longer than 3 weeks, 3 weeks would almost cover the south island then you have the north island which could easily take another 2-3 weeks
Yes, but I'd never be able to wangle longer off work, and £500,000 isn't enough money to jack in my job and live on the interest!
Depends on how old you are and you earning potential, £500k equates pretty much to what I will earn over the remainder of my working life, its a very easy decision to make
Let me see, four houses for £500,000 would be £125,000 each. So these would be pretty small houses in a pretty crap area, I take it?
Have been pondering this for a while since I saw it. I'd make the lifestyle change my wife and i have always wanted and move to Cornwall. We're really lucky and have our own holiday home now there but really want to live there full time. I have a daily job search running now. With £1/2m we'd sell both our holiday home and 'home' home and buy somewhere outright which is bigger than our 2 bed flat. I'd need a garage for a jetski too. North coast, no quesiton. Probably somewhere like Mawgan Porth or Porth itself (just north of Newquay). I'd then leave my job in the midlands and invest the difference, using the interest to cover the regular bills for running the house on a monthly basis. Then - (and finally) i'd become self-employed running something for the tourist season - like mountain bike tours, jetski excursions or my latest brainwave - 'nightclub Gym'. Basically the lights and noise level of a nightclub banging away whilst you're on the treadmill / rower etc. I know it would get another 1/10th out me! Oh, and i'd keep my 848 as it's perfect as it is, but i'd probably buy a new monster 1100 or 848 SF just for hooning on
I agree. I'd give the kids something to help them pay some of their mortgage off and I'd look at investing the rest somehow, to give me a better return than it just sitting in the bank. Hopefully it'd give me a safety net that I wouldn't need.
I thought this post started out promising....but then realised I'd miss read it....I think I had a comma in there, after lifestyle.
No £250,000 for a nice 4\5 bed detached with a nice chunk of land and then 3 smaller 3 beds to rent out. All within 20 min of Caldwell park
Being born and bred in the South East, with friends, family, and work here, it's not so easy to up sticks and move North. Believe me I've looked at what I could buy and it's a real eye opener. House prices are stupid in the South, and £500k would be very handy thank you!
