Ducati World Première 2018 - Chat Thread

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Rob, Nov 5, 2017.

  1. Totally agree, and the new V4 TOTALLY floats my boat!

  2. So. As Ducati have said many times the v4r will be 1000cc, why is everyone struggling so much to grasp this or use a search??

Anyway, the v4r is very likely to be lookin at wsbk rules closely before putting eggs in any particular bore and stroke basket, especially given that the new rules will only allow +3% revs over the standard road bike, this will likely mean they will keep the bore as big as the 1100cc and shorten the stroke as much as they possibly can for revs out of the standard bike. Maybe they will even go bigger with the bore size (the start of the 1200cc engine) to go really extreme.

Ref the 959 Corse, it’s something I need to see in the flesh for that paintwork to ‘work for me’ but I think I must be the only person that quite likes the akrapovic cans as frankly I can’t be arsed with the faff of trackday noise limits nowadays. I do like the bpf forks in the standard 959 a lot though so could get a 12k lightly used bike with a Ohlins TTX and a Li Ion battery and I think it would be on the money for me. Shame the corse didn’t introduce the Dow blipper, especially as the Supersport S even has it!

  3. Yep, agree with that :upyeah:

  4. Well...it isnt is it - not to the person in the street that wants a base model to go an mod the shit out of to race...he cant - he's gotta go buy one particular version....right now you could but either the gsxr1000r or rr and race in the same race club/competitive race...

Same thing applies for the r1 and the fireblade....i could buy any version and go race it...

  5. But are you really going to though? Or are you going to wait for the R and stick with the angry Italian? Maybe this is why they're counting on

  6. Maybe.....but, this is the thing isnt - theyve lost that versitility havent they?

Im not saying me personally im talking the royal we....the average bloke in the street...i bet the litre bike will have a hefty price tag to match....cementing my point...

  7. I hear what you are saying but how many 1198cc Ducatis have you seen racing at club level ? Apart from Ash on his 1098R in his national class, I can't recall seeing many if any at all. The current Panigale 1299 has too many ccs for competition which is no different. Andy

  8. Watched most of the live stream that actually worked last night and come away a bit underwhelmed to be honest... I hope the the V4 looks better in the flesh as it didn't float my boat in the looks department. Maybe it's one that will grow on us given time...

Today though, when I saw the price of each model! Makes me feel like my tricolore was a bargin, £22k differential in price... if the rumours are true too, there will be nearly 500 less tricolore's as they will be producing 1500 speciale's...

Looking forward to seeing some of the new models hit the dealers and have a good nosey around them though :)

  9. The issue with Ducati constantly banging out Speciale's, SL's, R's, Tri-colore etc etc etc is, surely this will devalue the whole limited bike appeal eventually ??

  10. Where did you hear of a V4 Tricolore ? Certainly nothing on the presentation last night or on the web site today. You got a base, an s and the Speciale. Andy

  11. Except almost nobody buys Ducati panigale R’s at £28k (or whatever they are) and races them, certainly no one other than the very biggest teams. Everyone buys zx10’s/GSXR and R1’s for reduced prices and benefits from the fact that loads of others run them and spares are cheap and easy. The teams that could afford a season racing a panigale R now will be able to afford it when the V4R comes out

  12. Didn't hear of a V4 tricolore Andy. As I said in my post... 1500 Speciales will be produced so will be limited in supply. The Tricolore wasn't limited in numbers but by only being produced for a year which it is rumoured limited the production run to just over a thousand units so it looks like they could be a rarer beast again.

I'm not in a position to order a new special so I'm very happy with the Tricolore I bought last month for £22k less :upyeah:

  13. I think that was the generic term people were using to describe the model prior to the launch and from what dealers had been alluding to (owing to the colours of the Speciale no doubt).

  14. In fairness to Andy or for that matter any other prospective buyer of the Speciale, it comes loaded with a lot of additonal extras which the Tricolore didn't, aside from the Termi slip ons, DDA and the paintwork. Though as you point out they may in the fullness of time prove somewhat rarer by virtue of their production timeline, so may end up as a good long term investment. Both nice bikes in my opinion, though apples and oranges by comparison, as even though only 5 years separates them, a lot has changed technologically since 2013. Have to say if I'd ended up with a Tri instead of my 1199S, I might have been loathed to sell it. Congrats with the purchase Ben.

  15. Tbh Ducati did not release any numbered ltd edition 899's or 1199's,with the 1299 they released 1 numbered ltd bike and a final edition non numbered bike following Ducati,s tradition of blinging up a last of line special and with the 959 this corse edition is the first special they have done (i dont count the 2 Ducati uk 959 specials as official bikes).Seems a break of tradition to release a new model with a ltd edition special,i guess they have seen how many superleggera's they have sold and have created there own market for hyper priced superbikes , i look forward to test riding the v4 next year and i will pop up the road to the NEC in a couple of weeks to take a butchers at the actual bike before i make judgement, the only thing i see that offends is the standard exhausts look very clumsy in front of the rear wheel area.I would be interested in doing a back to back test ride on both the Ducati and Aprilla v4's,OYB maybe busy with test rides next year.

  17. Agree. Bit of a faux-pas and a company of this size could at least afford a proof reader BUT it might be worth considering that whoever constructed the graphics, English may not be their first language. I wonder how well an English company would fair, presenting a product in Italian.

  18. Ah I'm sorry but there's no excuse for that shambolic presentation, it's irrelevant what the native language of the author is as it's a quality control issue IMO. As for the video and audio problems... I was doing that shit successfully in the mid 1990s and tech has moved on a long way since then really no excuses for the terribly-amatuer quality of the whole thing IMO.

On the funnier side of things - I did suggest to a few bike mates last night to tune in and watch saying that they always f*k something up - the scale of the cock ups though was embarrassing.

  19. RSV4Rf 200bhp/1000cc vs Panigale v4 220bhp/1100cc cannot see anything "ground breaking" here.
Basically 10% more power for 10% more displacement.
Though the V4 is a lot lighter, anyway comparing hp/cc here not the overall bike performance.
Nothing wrong with the V4, power and torque is never enough:upyeah:...but where is the motogp techology?
