Buying A New Bike...

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Pavey, Nov 6, 2017.

  1. What model was it, the S1000r? I have heard that a couple of times, might be why they sell them with massive bar ends!

I think @comfysofa rode one and said it was ok though.

  2. Bought a 750 Monster without test riding had it couple months then rode a S4r and binned the 750

Bought the MV blind as no demos but the dealer did let me test ride my bike & said if i didn’t like it I could have my deposit back :)

  3. The BMW dealer has said that i can do that aswell, which i thought was nice. Will mull over it overnight i think then call them up tomorrow*

    *if the wife lets me

  4. the one i had was the s1000rr 2015 model.

  5. Maybe it was the amount of power it had that made it vibrate so badly. I guess i'll find out in due course, hopefully is ok.

  6. its really hit or miss with the bmws, i googled it when i got back there were pages and pages of bmw vibration problems.

  7. Test rides are 1/2 the fun

  8. Never ridden any of mine if I’d fallen in love with it and wanted it was going to have it. To be honest how many times on this forum have people bought an 848 said they’re not sure then learned to ride it and love it.

If it’s what you fancy go for it

  9. Especially on the XR....

  10. Bought my first 899 without demo.
The S1000R is a great bike , very quick , good handling, good fuelling ( usefully @ commute speeds) , sublime comfy & decent finish. The heated grips are a bonus & very welcomed at this time of yr.
Only negative for a naked is a really poor turning circle but that’s coz of its superbike heritage.
The looks are marmite but I personally like the asymmetrical fugliness of both the R & RR.
The new ones come with an Akra & sound great too.

Enjoy & post up some pics when you get it.

  11. Thanks mate, that's just the post i wanted to read. :upyeah:

I have previously been commuting on the 1198 so the turning circle thing hopefully wont be too much of an issue - like to think i have the low speed control of Dougie Lampkin! The dealer fired up the grips for me, very impressive as i have never had them before. This one had all the bells and whistles on it, bar the factory alarm.

  13. The latest crop of XR’s seem largely sorted & the R / RR really do vary bike to bike ( personal experience).
Handlebar vibes is a quick fix, peg vibes ( if you are unlucky), less so.

  14. I agree, and just don't have the time or means to get there to have one.

    @bradders

  15. A mate rode one and a tuono back to back, decided he preferred the tuono on looks and equipment at the time

  16. My RR came with the alarm , it’s a bloody pain. Constantly goes off, nobody pays attention & drains the battery.

You are not missing owet pal.

  17. Tuono is probably the better looking bike, bit also lairier i think which through London isn't such a good thing. An all black (soon to be dirty) is hopefully less conspicuous.

  18. I had one on my 749 and had it removed eventually for those very reasons. Wasn't too upset when they said it didn't have one.

  19. Tuono def more exciting, but for a daily commute I’d have the BM in a heartbeat.
